A closer look

July 6, 2009 in freckles,Isabelle,Uncategorized

Before Isabelle even arrived, the OB took one look at me and said, "I bet your child has freckles, but just so you know, they don't usually show up until around two years old."

Previously, we started noticing them; a little one on her cheek, one on her arm, just a little sprinkling of them. Now, she has enough of them to point them out...and she can see them.

We take every opportunity to tell her how much we love them and how beautiful they are. (Because, well, kids are mean, and I remember being made fun of because of all of my freckles..."freckle face" being one of them).

The other morning (yes, we are in PJs and our hair is NOT brushed), we were looking at freckles and pointing them out. Isabelle has a fun time finding hers.

Then, she decided she would look for mine. That's pretty easy to do! "There's one...there's one...there's one" all the while pointing out each one.

Here's hoping one day she will embrace her freckles, too, and that kids will only be nice to her about them. I can dream, right?

Kids are definitely cruel! But she's so gorgeous, just like you. If they make fun of her (and like they did you) it's because they're jealous!!!

Kids can be so mean! I don't remember anyone being made fun of for freckles in my classes. I hope she ends up in a class like mine :)

Good for you teaching her to love herself! I really think that is my most important job as the mother to a girl!

Yes, here's hoping she doesn't get made fun of! :)

My two red heads are quite speckled too (as am I) with two red headed, freckled grandmothers, there was little chance they wouldn't have them! We call them freckle farms and my daughter thinks they are the greatest thing since Polly pocket – which is saying a lot for a six year old. Our son like 'em b/c she does! Here's to sibling rivalry being helpful for once!

I have a birthmark on my chin and lip that i used to try to cover as well. now i love them! when i was in teen people magazine they airbrushed my birthmark and freckles right off my face…i didn't like it! i think that's wheni realized i actually loved my look!

I didn't know that about it taking two years for freckles to appear. Hmm. Learn something new every day. I'm actually starting to see more and more freckles on my 9 year old. Guess sometimes it takes more than two years?

And who cares what those kids might say. That is one cutie patootie – freckles or not!

She is a beauty and I'm sure that she will find self confidence and embrace her freckles because it is something that the two of you share and she sees you as beautiful.

I know all about the freckles! Fortunately, I don't remember kids making fun of me. Ava doesn't have any yet, but I know she will.:)
