We let them share.

June 29, 2010 in rooming together

A couple weekends ago, our sister and brother-in-law came to visit with our almost 3 year old nephew.

Our house is not huge, so we had to figure out sleeping arrangements for him.  We decided to give him Izzy's room and the girls would share Natalie's room.  Izzy got a queen air mattress on the floor…the girls thought it was a bounce house!

The first night went okay.  Natalie was asleep before we put Izzy to bed.  This was the best option.

The next two nights?  Not so great.

Natalie screamed a lot.  She kept saying "no, no, no, no, no" and then screaming it.

Isabelle was yelling through the door "mommy, Natalie's awake."  "Mommy, Natalie's crying."  It.was.fun.

Despite my better judgment, I brought Izzy in our room.  She said "Mommy, it's too loud in there."

Touché, Izzy, touché.

She proceeded to kick me, poke me and mess with me.  And, even with all of this, Natalie was still screaming her head off.  She finally passed out, so I brought a very awake Izzy back into the room to sleep.

Izzy helps put Nat's shoes on.

They sure are cute when they work together and help each other.  But, man this sleeping in the same room business is tough.

That Monday, we found out Natalie had a double ear infection, so maybe that was part of it.  And, hopefully, when we give the room sharing a go again, it will go much better.

Tell me it will go better, please!

My boys always loved sharing a room. They felt very comforted. Of course the talking goes on way too long, but ah well. ;)
Good luck!

Oh, poor mommy! Evan and Isabella have been good when they’ve had to be in the same room-like on trips. I bet it was the ear infection-poor baby!

I’m thinking this sharing thing might not go so well again. UNLESS, of course, it was the ear infection. Hmm…best of luck!

ughh those are so tough when you just need them to be flexible for a few days and they are anything but! Hopefully next time is better :-)

So you want me to tell you the room sharing gets better?
How about if I just tell you how pretty you’ve been looking lately instead?

I think when Natalie is a little older it will go better. My boys share now and it’s gotten easier as G has gotten older. Love this picture – so sweet…

We had our kids sharing a room briefly but when we decided to start getting BB to sleep through the night I separated them so that her big brother wouldn’t have to listen to her sobbing when he was trying to sleep.

In order to save money on heating our insanely odd house, we moved all 6 kids into the oil heated portion last winter. 2 girls in one room and 4 boys in another. It has been … interesting. I think after 9 months they’ve finally adjusted (sort of ).

I’m sure it’s an adjustment phase. I shared a room with Rachel when we were very young. It worked just fine :) But we DID stay up talking and playing and driving my parents nuts. But typically it wasn’t screaming. They’ll get passed it if they ever decide to share full time :)
