e-mealz | Review and Giveaway

August 11, 2010 in giveaway,review

imageE-Mealz' goal is to provide delicious family friendly recipes with   ingredients bought on special and/or at the best price available.  Additionally, they wan to create an easy and stress free home-cooked dinner.

Once a week, you log into your account, and have a look at the menu for the store and plan you have chosen.  You then print off the menu and the grocery list for an entire week.  The menu choices are:

  • Point-System Meal Plans
  • Low-Carb Meal Plans
  • Vegetarian Meal Plans
  • Couples-Only Meal Plans
  • Kroger Meal Plans
  • Publix Meal Plans
  • Wal-Mart Meal Plans
  • ALDI Meal Plans
  • RALPHS Meal Plans
  • Any-Store Meal Plans

Serious Tested:

Pros: We've loved pretty much all of the meals. I'm a little pickier, so we tend to not make the ones I don't think I will like.  I like that I don't have to come up with all of the meals for the week on Saturday.  You get seven meals including recipes and grocery list.  And, if you don't want a meal, you can go through the grocery list and cross off that meal on the list (by crossing off any ingredient with that meal number listed).

Cons: I wish they would utilize leftover ingredients.  For example, one week a recipe called for 1/2 of a package of feta cheese, and there was no recipe to use up the rest.  And, another recipe called for 1/2 cup of chicken broth with no use for the rest of the can.  It would be nice if everything was used up.

Also, we take our lunches and they approximately $80 a week doesn't necessarily account for breakfast and lunch.  Most of the time, we take left over dinner, but we like to add a fruit and a snack.  Also, our whole family eats breakfast.

Our weekly grocery budget is $80, so obviously, we have to bend this.  Typically, I've been making 4-5 of the meals listed (which is more than enough for us) and then we use the remaining money to purchase the food for our other meals.

Having said all of that, we are quite pleased with the E-mealz plans.  It really makes it easy to plan and to shop because the list is organized in sections and by stores.  It is only $5.00/month, or $1.25/week.
