When I was doing cloth diaper research over a year ago, something that I never thought would jump out at me was using cloth wipes. One would think that you would consider cloth wipes when considering cloth diapers, but I guess they didn’t go hand in hand. But, I’m so glad I decided to use them too.
When washing cloth diapers, I think it’s actually easier to use cloth wipes, too. They just go in the same container with the diaper (rinsed off of course) and then get washed. I’ve used disposables a couple times and it’s actually more work!
Recently, we’ve been trying out Thirsties Fab Wipes. They are definitely fabulous. They are two-sided/two-ply (Velour side: 85% cotton, 15% polyester Microfleece side: 100% polyester) and measure 8″ x 8″ inches. And most changes, only require one wipe (I know we would use like 5 of the disposables). According to Thirsties, using cloth wipes for everything from birth to potty (and even meal-time clean ups, leaky noses, and burpies) you can save around $550! We just have ours in a little box on the side of the changing table.
They’ve already been through countless washes and they look exactly the same as the day they arrived. No fraying, no thinning, and no staining.
Fortunately, with cloth diapering and wipes, we haven’t had hardly any booty irritations (knock-knock, just in case), but we’ve had a couple ammonia burn run-ins. The Booty Love cleared it up overnight. Can’t beat that. And I didn’t have to use anything special with it because it’s cloth diaper friendly.
The ingredients are super simple, too: Extra Virgin Olive Oil*, Beeswax*, Oregon Grape Root, Myrrh Gum, Yarrow Herb*, Calendula Flower* * Certified Organic Ingredients. Because of these ingredients, the consistency of the ointment is thick at cooler temperatures but softens up and spreads very easily with just the warmth from your fingers or their bottom.
It can also be used to aid in the healing of minor cuts, burns and skin irritations.
