One thing that’s not in the soon-to-be-mom manual…you don’t get sick days. Like ever. You just aren’t allowed to be sick. People need you and depend on you. So, if you are sick, you’d better have something that allows to you feel like you can function and sleep at night.
I’m the first to admit that I am not a germophobe at all, but I do try to stay healthy. I try to wash my hands frequently (with no antibacterial hand wash) and most importantly eat healthy (and try to get a good amount of sleep and rest.)
When that doesn’t work, the first thing I turn to for a cold is DayQuil and NyQuil. It’s just the one thing that works for me. During the day, the DayQuil helps keep my sinuses dried out and make me feel partially human. And, the NyQuil helps me feel like I can breathe at night so I can fall asleep. (It helps that it is the #1 pharmacist recommended brand for adult cough/cold/flu relief, although, I’m sure my mom was the first one that had me take it when I was sick.)
The three active ingredients in Vicks NyQuil Cold & Flu Relief are Acetaminophen for aches and fever, Dextromethorphan HBr for cough suppression, and Doxylamine Succinate for sneezing and a runny nose. And the DayQuil has Acetaminophen for pain relief and fever reduction, Dextromethorphan HBr to suppress a cough, and Phenylephrine HCl for nasal congestion. I was surprised to compare them and see that there is only one active ingredient different in the “Quils” based on the time of day.
Of course, I’d prefer not to take anything, but if and when I feel like I have to take something, I’m glad there is an option! (I prefer the LiquiCaps. I don’t really like to taste my medicine!)

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Vicks DayQuil & NyQuil. I received product samples and a promotional item as a thank you for participating.
