A little scare, but all is well

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. I MAY EARN FROM QUALIFYING PURCHASES.

At our 20 week ultrasound, we found out that we were adding a third precious little girl to our family.

However, what I didn’t mention is that we also learned that our baby had two cysts in her head.  We decided that we would keep it between us and God and pray that everything was okay.  I had an overwhelming sense of peace about it and knew that everything was 100% okay with our little girl.  But, it is customary to go see a specialist just to make sure.

So, we went to the specialist at the beginning of October. She told us that yes the cysts are there and they can be a sign of Trisomy-18, but there are absolutely no other signs and everything else looks wonderful.

She suggested we come back in 6 weeks (today) just so she can “prove the cysts are gone.”

Today, she did just as she said.  The cysts are gone.  Our baby girl looks absolutely perfect.  She was sticking her tongue out and even looked like she was smooching her face up against some glass and rubbing her lips on it.

Most important thing we heard?  “Your baby looks great.  Everything looks good and I don’t need to see you again (unless we have to figure out a plan for your low platelets)!”

Second best thing?  We got to see our baby girl again.  We think she has Aunt Emily’s nose and daddy’s lips!

And, she has daddy’s feet and toes, too!

We are very thankful for our happy, and healthy baby girl.

  1. This is crazy. We had the same exact thing with Tucker. At 19 wks was when we found out the sex and had the big ultrasound to check him out. We didn’t even tell our parents because we were going to surprise them on Father’s Day with “Grandpa’s Buddy” boy onesies. The next day I had my normal monthly appointment with the doc (so I was by myself bc Mike had just gone the day before to the US with me) and he told me all about the cyst (Tucker had just one though). I was a MESS! I cried & cried and was so worried. I ended up calling my mom & telling her the whole thing and let it slip that it was a boy (they didn’t even know we had gone to have an US done since we were keeping it a secret). I talked to my aunt who said what the doc said that most likely it would resolve itself by the time we had another scan done. Sure enough, three weeks later (the three longest weeks of my life) we went for a higher US and everything was perfect. No cyst to be seen and all measurements were right on. I was so relieved! The doc we talked to that day was a big jerk though, saying it still was a 1 in 600 chance and “someone has to be that one”. Ugh! But, you see Tucker, healthy as can be!

I’m sure you were a mess as well…I’m so glad everything looks good! Come on baby, no more scares for momma!

    1. It was definitely scary! And, we had to wait 6 weeks! I was so glad Mr. Serious was there with me when they first told us. I tried to keep it together, and then when the doctor told me to breathe, I realized I was holding my breath and lost it!

      Exactly…no more scares!

  2. I had a somewhat similar scare with my now 5 year old son at his 20 wk ultrasound. They said they found a spot of concern on his heart. I worried myself crazy about it until our next ultrasound a few weeks later, where whatever they found the first time wasn’t there anymore and there was no longer need for concern. The whole growing a baby thing is really just miraculous. I’m glad everything is looking good for your little girl.

    1. It really is a miracle, but I wonder sometimes about all of the medical attention and wonder if they should really look for those things..the ones that freak us out!

    1. I have to admit, it was very hard for me to put it all in His hands, but the peace I felt definitely didn’t come from any other source.

  20. Thrilled to hear all is well and drooling over those ultrasounds (and grateful for your descriptions, those pics are always disorienting at first).

    1. My mom and stepdad have no idea what they are looking at. I always like to send it to them without any descriptions, just to see what they think!

  21. We had the same thing with both of my kids. (In fact with Caitlin the cyst never went away, but they have assured me that it is nothing to worry about!) I remember being SO worried about it! The doctor made me promise not to google it. My OB told me multiple times that she thinks it is something that is very common that we only notice these days because the technology has improved so much. I was happy to have an extra ultrasound out of it, but I remember the worry!

I’m thrilled to hear things are going well! Praying for you and your family!

    1. Yes, it’s so scary. I wish they wouldn’t look for it because it seems to just cause extra stress and fear in moms!

  22. Yay on the great news! I know that’s got to be a huge relief.

She’ll be here in no time…it’s just around the corner!!

    1. I know…less than 10 weeks until my due date! I can’t believe it (although, in about 6 weeks, I’m going to be complaining that 4 weeks can’t get here soon enough.)

  23. SassyModernMom says:

I am over the moon thrilled for you. I’m in awe of your sense of peace and calm my friend, that Mama instinct, that faith, such a blessing. Hugs..

  24. Glad to hear that everything worked out!!! Congratulations on your little girl.

  25. Oh, SO happy to hear it Krystyn!! And I certainly know you were all too. So excited to “meet’ your precious pink bundle!!

    1. Yes, we were very happy to hear it! I can’t wait to really meet her, either! Well, in 10 weeks.

  26. grandma Pat says:

I am so glad shE is ok. I love seeing the pictures. I do think she has Aunt Emily’s nose for sure. A little button.
