A masterpiece | PSF

This past weekend we paid for a babysitter for the older two girls. We don’t like to pay for babysitters. It’s expensive. But, we did it.

We gave clear directions to both the sitter and the girls for our expectations.

Let’s just say our expectations weren’t met at all and we had two very tired and very cranky girls the next day (who didn’t go to sleep until 10pm). Oh, and they broke their ceiling fan in their bedroom. Only the hottest room in the house.

Yeah. Awesome.

So, Sunday was a doozie. Meltdowns started right off the gate. Of course they still woke up at 6:30am!

When I heard about the evening (from the girls that morning), I was already in a bad mood. I begrudgingly got myself ready for church, and as I came upstairs, I saw this on my bedside table.

Usually it’s residence is in the girls’ room. But not this morning. #1 decided that it should go on my bedside table.

It made me stop dead in my tracks. And, I immediately smiled. And, then shed a few tears.

It wasn’t their fault I was upset. They were just being kids (however, I certainly hate that excuse).

When I asked her why she put the picture there, her explanation melted me and broke my heart at the same time.

“It’s a masterpiece mom. I put it there so when I grow up and move away you’ll remember me!”

I don’t think she realizes she’s not allowed to a) grow up or b) move away.

So for now, I savor the meltdowns and the missed bedtimes and the broken fans because one day she will grow up, and one day she might move away.

  1. She’s only allowed to move if it’s to Texas! If you lived closer you wouldn’t pay for babysitters….just saying!

  2. Kids know just what to say at just the right time, don’t they?! It’s amazing. (Also, I think those sitters shouldn’t be hired again. 🙂

  3. Such a great photo of them! Sometimes a night staying up late with a babysitter is a good thing, something different from the normal. At least that is what I tell myself!

    1. Yeah…this was a little too far. They fell asleep in front of the TV. That never happens. Then, when they went to bed they had a second wind and broke the ceiling fan. I’m not a fan of paying for a ceiling fan and a sitter.

What a sweet sweet daughter you are raising. She is growing up so darn fast. Speaking of moving away, what do you think you did???????

    1. Yes, she is. She has 4 loose teeth! Ahhhh!

Oh, and it’s “do as I say, not as I do!”

  5. That is Absolutely a masterpiece.

Does 10pm mean the kids were up when you got back from date night? Because that is the WORST buzz kill ever.

    1. Nope they were alseep…we ended up home at 10:45…to receive the screw that fell out of the ceiling fan blade. Which when replaced still didn’t repair it.

  6. so sweet mama! i adore that picture!!

sorry it was a rough night though 🙁

  7. And… I’m crying now. What a sweet post. I love moments like these. No, not the broken ceiling fan, grouchy kids, and late bedtimes. But the times when we feel overwhelmed and tired and then something stops us and wakes us up. We see how quickly it can go and in the grand scheme of things, life is good. 🙂
    Great post!

    1. That’s exactly what it was…stopped me dead in my tracks!

Ahhh…. you are wise beyond your years. It is so true. You will be amazed how fast the years pass and the wee ones are suddenly parents of wee ones themselves. I am glad that you are enjoying the ride. Hugs, Grammy

  9. I went through so many babysitters and did not have my expectations met…..it frustrated me to no end and made me not want to go out.

I never got a masterpiece out of my messy house with dishes left in the sink when I returned home though. 🙂

    I LOVE that. 🙂

    1. That’s sort of how I feel. I guess I like trading with parent friends better…but then we can’t ever go out together.

  10. What a sweet picture and story! My favorite photo of my little girl is one that she is having a total melt down in. It always makes me stop and smile because I love her so much, even when she’s being a baby (she IS a baby after all).

    1. Oh, I love those meltdown ones, too..that’s terrible, right?

  11. courtney b says:

awww.. its so hard to find a good babysitter! i swear i’m STILL looking!

    1. Thanks, Blessing!

They sometimes make it tough to remember when they do crazy things like this!

  12. Anti-Supermom says:

This post just grabs at my heart. How sweet!

Me too, $10 a hour for a babysitter kills me. When I find out they sit in front of a tv 1/2 after we leave… I’m not calling her back. It’s so stinky for you guys.

    1. Yeah..they wanted Cinderella and then watched tv. Not happy at all..I would have been better bringing them to the party with me!
