applecheeks Cloth Diaper Little Buddle Review and Giveaway

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. I MAY EARN FROM QUALIFYING PURCHASES.

When I decided that baby E was going to wear cloth diapers, my research began. Because I search and research everything. I want to know what I’m going to use, what is the best, how to take care of it, etc. When talking to a friend, she told me about applecheeks, a Canadian-made reusable diaper system. She mentioned them because they come in two sizes, size 1 (~7-20lbs) and size 2(~18-40lbs). Applecheeks were created by Ilana Grostern and Amy Appleton Venu who have drawn from their own personal experiences, as well as listened to their customers over the years.

And from the moment they arrived, we love them. Mr. Serious pulled them out and said “it’s sooo fluffy!” (He’s becoming quite the diaper connoisseur, but not the diaper washer). I have to agree, they are very fluffy.

I tested out the applecheeks little bundle with a bamboo insert, it comes with a cover and the insert. It sure is hard to tell here, but this is raspberry sorbet, a bright pink color) and it comes all bundled up like this.

Both sizes feature two rows of easy-to-adjust snaps, allowing for a proper fit at the legs and the waist. The outer layer is a breathable, waterproof polyurethane laminated polyester (PUL), sewn to a butter soft microfleece inner layer, so that only the softest of soft touches your baby’s delicate skin.

The bamboo insert that comes with the little bundle is made of two layers of VERY thirsty 70% rayon from bamboo/30% organic cotton fleece gives amazing absorbency. This bamboo insert is what made me realize I love natural fibers in the diapers. It’s much more absorbent and doesn’t get nearly as stinky as some of the manufactured materials. It is approximately 12″ x 15″ flat and you fold it into thirds and you get six layers in the soaker zone.

I also learned that bamboo  retains twice as much moisture as cotton alone for its weight! And plus bamboo’s antimicrobial properties make it the healthy choice for your baby’s bottom.

With applecheeks envelope covers, you can use it as a pocket, and stuff the insert into the handy envelope opening (wide enough for daddy’s hands, which allows for the option of placing the absorbent inner between the fleece and the waterproof outer layer if so desired).

Or, you can place the insert on top of the diaper and use it as a cover.

The diaper has nug, durable elastic at both the waist and legs for a gentle fit that keeps the blowouts at bay. We haven’t had a blowout at all with our applecheeks. We had one wet leak and that was user error (she was in a diaper a little too long in her carseat).

(This is the same diaper…you can’t tell can you?)

This was just at two weeks old and approximately 9 pounds. It’s a great fit on her legs.

And a great fit across her belly, too.

Here she is at just a week old. You can see that it even fit underneath her cord stump. So, yes, I like the applecheeks so much, I’ve bought several more! They now sell microfiber/stay-dry insert that is a little more cost effective.

I’ve fallen for applecheeks so hard I’ve joined a B/S/T facebook group set up by the owners. It’s so nice because they actually pop into the group and help people out when they need assistance.

The only thing I can say is a negative is the fact that it is a little pricier (around $29 for a cover an insert). The insert washes really well and dries pretty fast for a natural fiber (the 2-ply insert that comes with the little bundle). The 3-ply inserts take a little longer to dry, but the added absorbency is really nice for overnight.

They also have swim diapers, which I have heard FABULOUS feedback about. I can’t wait to get my hands on one to test it out this summer!

I received the Applecheeks bundle to facilitate my review. All thoughts are 100% my own. Contains some affiliate links.
