How to easily fill your refillable pouches

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. I MAY EARN FROM QUALIFYING PURCHASES.

We’ve been going through a ton of pouches lately. The girls really like taking them to school in their lunches, and quick grab and go snacks that typically mean no mess. (Unless of course, a toddler decides it’s funny to give a firm squeeze and then freak out that her hand is dirty and yell “mess mess”!) But, that’s not always the case.

The one thing that was preventing me or slowing me from using resealable pouches was the filling part. It was always messy and ended up with a clogged funnel or a spooned mess all over the counter.

Solution? The turkey baster. Seriously works like a dream. Minimized mess…maximized fill-age of the pouches. (This picture looked so much better in my head. But, yes, that’s a turkey baster..worked perfectly!)

This time, I was refilling the Yummi Pouches. It is a reusable food pouch that is an eco-friendly container moms can fill with homemade healthy snacks for their kids. When purchasing refillable pouches, make sure they are dishwasher safe, freezer safe, BPA free, and Phthalate free.

You can fill them with homemade applesauce, smoothies, or pretty much anything that will come out of the pouch. I’ve even tossed them in the freezer for a bit to make them more slushy-like.

When looking for pouches, look for the following:

  • Pouches that hold up to 6-8 ounces of your favorite blended purees and smoothies.
  • Food grade material is BPA-free and phthalate-free.
  • Dishwasher safe, just expand the bottom and stand upside down on the top rack.
  • Freezer safe.
  • Reusable and recyclable.
  • Designed for little hands.
  • Easily fillable through strong top zipper seal.

If you have a hard time getting your pouch to open for the first time, remove the lid, and blow some air into the pouch. It will force the pouch open, then you can unseal the top and refill.

When your little monkey is screaming “eat eat” at you and wants her “’nack” now, you need to know all of these tricks and have them up your sleeve.

These refillable pouches are very easy to fill (especially with the baster method) and easy to clean. I’m all about throwing things in the dishwasher (I do rinse for pieces first), and them coming out clean!
