Oh sweet N. You are soooo full of personality I don’t even know what to do with you. I don’t even know how we got to FOUR. This is the best you would give me. Somehow, four must be done with two hands. You have to be just like your sister, don’t you? And, you wouldn’t smile either. In fact, I’m certain you think that your hands are the only thing I photographed.

Happy 4th Birthday N

You love to make people smile and laugh. You try to tell jokes and do silly things just to get people to laugh. Your knock knock jokes are something else! Those curls and that red hair are enough to stop most people, but you go the next step and make them laugh.

Happy 4th Birthday N

You have the kindest sweetest heart, too. Your intentions are always the best, especially when it comes to your baby sister. You love her to the moon and back. You love your big sister, too, you just have more unusual ways of showing it. Sometimes chasing and yelling is your preferred way. And the way you say her name…she knows exactly how you feel.

Happy 4th Birthday N

At the fair, just like your sister, you ended up on horse number 13 for your birthday. And showed daddy that it was your birthday number. Too cool.

Happy 4th Birthday N

You are enjoying your new school, and despite our reluctance and worry things are going very well. You like to draw and color and you ask us how to spell so many words. You also like to practice writing. (Hilarious note, you were wanting to write mommy’s name out and asked daddy to help you spell it. You first said “it must start with a C, right?” We corrected you and daddy kept helping you. We he got to the second “Y” you said “two y’s, that’s sill!” If only you knew honey, if only you knew!)

When I can get you to sit and let me take your picture, you are so stinking cute (this picture lets me know it’s perfectly okay mommy didn’t spend $40 on your school pictures. This one is even better!)

Happy 4th Birthday N

You still take a couple naps a week. Other days you fight and bang on your door. It’s really a treat. The good thing is, you are starting to pick up on mommy’s sarcasm. On second thought, that probably isn’t great, but considering I know some adults that don’t get it, I guess we’ll run with it.

You are stubborn with a capital STUBBORN. If it’s not your way or your idea, we can pretty much forget it getting done. That is, until you are convinced it was your idea. So I probably give into you way too often because you can put up one heck of a fight and you are just as loud as you were when you were 2 months old. When you asked to ride in that darn car cart that is impossible to push, I gave in.

Happy 4th Birthday N

You are really a sweet, intelligent, thoughtful and wonderful girl. You do things without us asking; helpful things, nice things, awesome things.

We love you more than you will ever know.

Love, Mommy

3rd birthday.

2nd birthday.

1st birthday.

It’s good that you’ve figured out how to handle the stubbornness early. I was the same way as a child. When crossing the street, my dad would offer me the option, “Would you like to hold my hand, or do you want for me to hold yours?” I would think it over, and of course answer that I wanted to hold his. 🙂
She looks so thoughtful in the top picture, as if she wants to get the finger pose just “right.” Happy birthday, sweet girl!

    1. Oh, yes, we definitely have to make it her idea that she made a decision…even though she’s offered the same choice!

And the curls, I sure love them, too.
