This is a letter to myself as a part of the Blog Forward Challenge. Although I received complimentary product and ZonePerfect promotional items, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Blog Forward Zone Perfect The Blog Forward challenge was created as a way to make smart resolutions and then stick with them. Many bloggers are taking this challenge, me included, to help meet our goals. We’ll check in every couple months.

Dear Krystyn-

This year you are definitely up for a challenge. Adding a new family member is hard, and takes time to adjust for everybody. Yes, even you. So, you need to make sure you take care of yourself as well as your family. So a couple reminders.

1. It’s not about losing the weight right away. Having it slowly come off in a healthy controlled way is much better for your body. Continue to eat healthy for you as well as for the nourishment of B. Don’t feel guilty about snacking right now. It’s important you are eating enough calories for breast feeding. Sure, those calories should be high in protein and not junk food, so make good choices. Those first few weeks you will feel like you are eating all the time, and you are. It’s okay. Again, good healthy choices. And, it’s okay to eat while you nurse too, because three other little people need you at other times.

Healthy snacking while nursing

2. You resolved to do more random acts of kindness this year. DO IT! It doesn’t even have to cost money. Pay somebody a compliment. Greet a stranger with a smile. Stay back and hold a door open for somebody. Send a handwritten note. It doesn’t take much. Remember, it will bring you just as much if not more happiness than the recipient.

3. Remember that fitbit you got almost 1 year ago? See if you can slowly get back up to 10,000 steps a day. It’s a gradual process for sure, but get a stroller out and get your body moving. Vitamin D will do you wonders as well as any kids that go with you.

4. Remember to take time for yourself. You need to decompress. Sometimes, being the mom is hard. It’s okay to give yourself a time out and have a mom’s night out. Or even a mom’s run to the store solo. You need those breaks and it’s totally okay to take them.

  5. I like to remember that whole it takes 9 months to put on the weight, so it makes sense it’s not going to come off right away. Sounds like you are going about it in the right way.

And YES on time for yourself. I’d lose my mind without my time.

  6. What a great post. Having a baby is difficult – well having kids of any age really – but most importantly those baby years can drain ya, keep up the great work and your energy levels.

  7. Love the idea of writing yourself a letter. I need to bust out my FitBit and get moving! I’m a lot more conscious of my movement when I’m wearing it!

Good for you for not becoming obsessed with losing the baby weight! I am not a mom, but everyone I know has had babies or is currently pregnant. My FB newsfeed is full of all my beautiful friends who are now super body conscious. Congrats on the baby!!

    You’re an awesome momma!

  14. Ugh. I still have a pair of blue jeans that I wore when I was pregnant that I can still wear. That is depressing!! I’ve resolved to get healthier and lose weight this year and I’m doing that! I’ve been making it a priority to eat more and healthier. I say eat more, cause I’m one who never eats breakfast, usually skips lunch and then has a big dinner. With something sweet before bed. I tend to drink coffee all day. Sooo…I know my metabolism is totally out of wack!

  15. Love your letter. I’m sure you will get into a groove that works well for you and your baby!

  19. I like the idea of taking time for myself. It’s hard to do so when you have the demands of family nipping your heels all day long, but I find if I don’t get a little “me time” then I am no good for anybody.

  20. All these tips are wonderful, and I agree with them all. I always ate while nursing so I could be free at other times during the day. It’s amazing the things you learn to do while holding a baby.

  26. Taking a bit of time to myself is absolutely essential for my sanity!! I have 4 little ones under foot.

  27. teresa mccluskey says:

I think this is a really great post! I am in the middle of working on myself and getting in my zone of things! And so I did jot down a few notes!

  28. Great reminder letter! It’s important you take time for yourself, especially when you nurse. The real weight loss challenge is after you quit, because your appetite will be the same! I gained 15 pounds when I stopped nursing and trying to get that weight off now. Good luck!

  29. Sometimes it is hard to keep on track. Life is filled with multiple items to derail good intentions. Good for you for reminding yourself of your promises to yourself.

  30. This is a great post. Great letter to yourself. I may try writing one to myself maybe it will keep me on my fitness kick.
