The only car seat you will need | [VIDEO] | Graco 4Ever 4-in-1 Convertible Car Seat

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. I MAY EARN FROM QUALIFYING PURCHASES.

We’ve gone through a lot car seats in our house. A lot. Each of our four girls has an infant bucket seat and then a convertible seat. And the older girls have now moved to backed boosters and then eventually they will have backless boosters. I’ve lost count. But, now, thanks to Graco, B has a Graco 4Ever™ 4-in-1 Car Seat and we won’t have to get another seat again!

Before doing anything with a car seat, I always check the instruction manual. Read it. Keep it. Check it!

Graco 4EVER carseat review

The 4Ever will accommodate an infant from 4-40lbs in the rear-facing position. The recommendation is at least 2 years of age before facing forward and none of my girls have been close to 40lbs at a year, so I’m sure it will take us to 3 if not 4 rear-facing. Once your child hits at least 20 pounds (again, the recommendation is at least 2 years old), it converts to a forward-facing, five-point harness seat (up to 65 lbs.)

It then can be switched to a to a high-back, belt-positioning booster (30 – 100 lbs.) and to a backless, belt-positioning booster (40 – 120 lbs.). When you are ready to use the hit-back, belt-positioning booster, the integrated harness storage compartment holds the harness straps that are not in use.

The 4Ever has a the option to use your car’s LATCH system to install the seat. The LATCH is awesome and easy to use. The only setback is that the LATCH has to be moved on the seat around the base to convert between forward and rear-facing (I purchased the Graco Headwise 70 for E and it has two separate sets of LATCHes, one for forward-facing and one for rear-facing). Either direction, the InRight™ LATCH system with one-second attachment with an audio click cue to helps ensure a secure and easy installation makes installation.

It features a six-position recline keeps your child comfortable and making sure you can easily level the seat.

One of my favorite features is the Simply Safe Adjust™ Harness System with a 10-position headrest. It allows you to seamlessly adjust the harness and headrest together, with no rethreading! Yay. No more uninstalling the carseat to adjust the harness! Because of this, I can use the seat for our 6 and 8 year old interchangeably without removing anything! (Yes, my 8 year old fits with the 5-pt harness!) Of course, the kiddos like the 2 cup holders they can put their stuff in and I like that I can remove them to rinse them out.

The 4Ever is side-impact tested for occupant retention solely with the built-in five-point harness system.

The all-in-one car seat is engineered and crash tested to meet or exceed US standard FMVSS 213. This standard includes New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) with peak crash force approximately two times the car seat standard, Extreme Car Interior Temperatures and Side Impact Tested.

EPS, energy-absorbing foam for effective impact energy management.

The seat cover is washable and thus is easy to remove without removing the harness. Anybody that has ever had to clean up a car seat after an illness or a potty accident knows this is crucial!

The girls that can speak said the seat is very comfortable and asked if it was their new seat. Alas, B gets to keep it and use it for many more years! I’m so thankful we’ve been able to test out the Graco 4Ever because I don’t have to worry about purchasing a seat for B again!

  1. I want this car seat. I wish it clicked in a stroller but since we are way past that age I want it.

    1. I don’t think you will find one that does a bucket click in seat and goes all the way to a booster.

    1. Thanks! Definitely not a professional, but trying to fake it!

  2. Wow! I have three carseats to do all the things that this one does.

    1. Isn’t she? And also, she’s giant and freaks me out when the girls leave her around the house in crazy positions! I do a double take!

This crotch strap is the least annoying of all of my seats currently!

  3. I just can’t believe there’s one car seat for every age! So convenient. We used to have a stash of 10 or so car seats -3 kids and different stages. What a great invention.

    1. I’m scared to inventory ours…let me think, two cars, 4 kids, we have 10 seats right now. And, that would be more but several of them have expired!

      1. Megan brown says:

Hey! I’m having a really hard time loosening the straps Omni this car seat? They seem to be too tight no matter how much I loosen them! Any help please!

        1. Hi Megan

Are you pressing the silver button at the crotch and simultaneously pulling the straps at the top? You can kind of see this around 1:57 in the video. I can get my 10 year old in this seat so it should loosen enough, we just have to figure out why yours won’t come out more.

Did you change the LATCH around to forward facing and making they are stuck under the seat?

        2. Inna Fredericks says:

Try to adjust headrest to make it higher, the straps will become longer. Also u can move the buckle one step closer to the seat and it will make it 1 inch longer. Good luck!

  4. Love that you only need to buy one…
Wish we would have done more research on that end of things when we bough the first one for B

    1. Don’t beat yourself up too much….this seat is brand new:)

  5. I love this carseat! We have one still in a 5 point harness and my older two are in high back boosters. I would have loved to be able to keep the same carseat throughout their childhood.

    1. Things are always better after you need them, aren’t they? There weren’t any 5 point harness seats that worked for my now 6 and 8 year olds when they were too tall for the ones they were in.

  6. James Robert says:

This is one nice car seat and I like the seat cover being able to be washed on this as well. I had to buy infants seats then switch when they got bigger, really like this will grow with them

    1. So true! It’s so many seats! I’m glad we keep them safe, but I like that this one will take them all the way through!

  7. I’m in love! My infant is quickly outgrowing his infant bucket and we’re looking all over for a really great seat! I’ll have to check this out in stores!

    1. Yes, definitely scoop it up and check it out. I think the only stores that have this one right now are Babies R Us, so check first:)

  8. I love this car seat. I love how it grows with the child. I love the safety features.

  9. Susan Smith says:

Great design, I love that I don’t have to buy another car seat when my child grows out of the one he has now. I love the cup holders too.

    1. It’s funny how much the girls love those cup holders. They feel fancy with them. Even B (the 10 month old) has started looking for her pacifiers in them!

  10. Kristen Osborne says:

I wish we had known about this a few months ago 🙁 Great review1111

      1. Kristen Osborne says:

No we have an infant seat and she is growing so fast we have to get a new one very soon. Looking for a convertible 🙂

  11. Do you have to use the latches when the seat is rear facing? Or can you just use the seatbelt?

    1. Yes you can use the seat belts too! Make sure you check the manual, but most you have to pull the seatbelt all the way out to lock it.

You can get just as secure of a fit with a belt.

      1. Thank you so much for answering so quickly! I just ordered my daughter one:) I’m so excited!!!

  12. I love this review! We just got these seats for our twins! Do you know, I can’t find it anywhere and I just feel like I’m missing it, when do we HAVE to remove the infant insert? With our old seats, Chico Keyfit 30, you had to remove it at a certain weight. Do you have any idea? I want it to be as safe as possible.

    1. Hi Kayla-

I thought I had asked their PR team at one point, but I can’t find my email to be 100% sure. I believe they told me that since it was tested with the insert that it was for comfort and when you felt your baby didn’t need it, you would remove it. I believe we removed it around 15lbs, but I too couldn’t find an official answer in the manual.

However, I just went and got the manual and it’s on page 86 (definitely not where I would put it!).

Body Support (this is that bottom pillow):
“Use only in the rear-facing mode. Body support must be used if shoulders are below the lowest harness setting. Never allow body support to bunch or fold behind child.”

      Headrest Pillow:
“Use only in the rear-facing mode. To adjust the pillow, pull up until desired height. Do not use without the body pillow. To remove, slide the pillow out from the support.”

I interpret this to mean you only have to use it if you have really tiny baby (so that the seat works with a 5lb baby).

      I hope that helps!

  13. Help! I saw in your review that you can remove the cup holder… How? I have tried and tried, even resorted to looking in the manual, and I cannot figure out how to do it. Thanks!!

    1. Mine just popped in (I’m pretty sure I had to put them in when it arrived) and they pop out. Maybe you need to turn it so the little spot aligns, or maybe you aren’t pulling at the just the right angle? I remember them being pretty easy to pull out. Maybe something sticky got on the outside edge and you need to go around the edge and unstick it? Sorry you are having trouble.

      1. Thanks for your help! I’ll try to give it a good tug when my baby isn’t in it. They definitely made a click sound when I initially attached them and have read elsewhere that they aren’t removable, so I was just hoping you had a secret. Thanks again 🙂

        1. I just went outside to the van to give it a try. They literally just have to be pulled straight up. There is a little spot that is lined up and you just pull up and it pops right out (I actually pulled hard thinking it would be a challenge and smacked my hand on the roof of my van).

The only other thing I can think is that they changed the cup holders? But, Graco is pretty well known for making them removable so you can clean them.

If you want to, shoot my FB page a message and I can make a quick video and send it to you!

  14. As someone else stated, our cup cup holders are really hard to remove and while the cover is easy to remove, the rest of the seat is impossible to clean. For example, if and when your child puked in it, nothing short of spraying it out with a hose works. Unless, I’m missing something, I found no way to take the actual seat apart and clean it.

    1. Hi Jamie- Our cup holders pop off when you slide them upward. There is just a little guide on them. As far as taking the entire seat apart, I recommend you get in touch with Graco. Since this seat can also go to a booster, I think all of the parts should come off, but check with them to verify what you can take off and clean and what you can’t. Sorry you are having issues with it.

  15. Hi! How do you remove the cup holders? We love this seat, but can’t get the cup holders off! At some point in the 5+ years we’ll be using this…we need to be able to clean the cup holders!..ha thanks!

    1. Funny thing…we’ve had it 6 years and the only time I’ve taken them off is when somebody asks me how. There is almost like a tongue and groove In ours and it sort of slides up towards the top of the seat. Then you sit it on top of the spot and slide down to put it back in place.

      1. Thanks! We’ll try lifting up – I have knocked them off our seat a few times, but never needed to remove on purpose…lol
