How I make my girls feel special
Admittedly, it is a challenge to get one-on-one time with my girls. Even two-on-one time is tough.
E is pretty much always with me, but now that’s she’s getting older, she doesn’t need me quite as much (boo hoo), so I can make sure to have special time with the bigs.
I try to stagger it out, and most days, they each get a little mommy time, but we try to do more on the weekends.
In the morning, the oldest is up first, so we have our time before school starts and waiting at the bus stop. It’s short, but it’s just the two of us.
After getting the oldest off to school, the middle wakes up and we usually get a little time together before E wakes up, then we are usually off and running to get N to school, then it’s E and me for a bit.
The afternoon is similar but in the reverse. Quiet times, nap times and arriving from school times allow for staggering of time with the girls for homework, watching a show together, playing a game or doing a craft.
Whew. I’m exhausted.
On the weekends, with Mr. Serious home, we can separate to run errands out or in the house, and of course, we have time for doing fun things. We’ll go see a movie, head to a birthday party, make a special cake pop run, get some fro-yo on a whim or see a puppet show.
This weekend, for example, we were treated to tickets to see Brer Rabbit. It’s always a nice time at the puppet show, and perfectly timed at one hour. So the kids and parents are entertained the whole time.
Of course, the second favorite part (for the girls) is the making of the puppets after the show. They got to make Brer Bear. Once we figured out the right folds and glue placement and colored them, the girls were happy as clams. They sat in the back of the car the entire 45 minute ride home (where they usually complain about the “boring road”= highway) and playing back and forth with their puppets.
Even though they don’t say it, and don’t tell me, I know that they value the time where I’m not worrying about E and can dote on them a bit. They feel special and loved individually as well as in the family unit and nothing can replace that.
About the show:
Live music and delightful stories about Brer Rabbit and his friends fill the stage. The fun begins as the gang gathers to sing an early morning ditty. But competition gets the best of them when the characters begin a battle for bragging rights. Who is the swiftest? The strongest? The smartest? Brains beat brawn when Brer Bear, Brer Fox, Brer Rabbit, and Sister Mud Turtle find themselves in a briar patch of trouble. So, join the whole gang for this fun-filled Southern romp.
*We received tickets to see the show. All thoughts are my own. No other compensation was received.
Great ways to spend some one on one time with your girls! I know they appreciate it! I know I did as a kid!
They do. I can tell by how they behave and respond to me later in the day!
We love Puppetry Arts! A perfect family outing (when you have the time!).
Well, yes, the timing thing is always an issue!
Looks like they had fun!
I think it’s more than sweet that you make such an effort to get alone time with each of them!
How fun! I know they love their one on one mommy time. That’s neat they got to make a puppet after the show.
Part of the magic…ticket to the show always gets you a ticket to make a puppet.
Hailing from the WW of Seven Clown Circus. Thanks for sharing your show and making puppets with your children sounds like special quality time. Have a great time.
Every time we go, they love it and want to go back!
Awe, that looks like so much fun! What special memories that you are creating with your girls. <3
I’m so glad they make it fun for the adults, too!
This is a great way to spend individual time with your children. It’s so important to have special Mommy time one on one. Good for you thanks for sharing
So important..for the kids and for us!
This was so sweet. I can totally relate to figuring out one-one time with each kid, even with just two. My son always sees it as a treat when he gets to spend time along with mom. And thank goodness for blogger invites and events that I can bring a kid to! He now thinks mom’s job is so cool :).
Oh yes, I don’t even think the girls realize the fun things they get to do because of my “job!”
It looks like you had a great time! And I definitely think it’s important to give them all some face time. Sounds like you’re doing a good job balancing it all!
I do my best…I know I’m also crazy sometimes, too! hopefully, that balances out, too!
Oh my gosh, can one-on-one ever be a challenge! Lucky you got to get out and have some fun! Love that selfie of the three of you! Lol
I’m lucky that the hubby is supportive of it, too, because it is hard to get away with just one or two of them sometimes.
we have yet to do a puppet show… i should look into that for the summer 🙂
Yes, you totally should! They are entertaining for adults, too! And..free parking!
Wasn’t Brer Rabbit great? We really enjoyed it!
Yes, such a good show. They always do such an amazing job there.
fun – we went too. 🙂
You do have 3 girls don’t ya?!? Yep, I can see where that might be hard, but as the girls get older I am sure they will love the one on one time!
Yes, ma’am…three girls!
We do the best we can right now and try to get a little of each of them, and they get a little of us.
It looks like you girls had a great time at the puppet show! One on one time is so crucial!
So very crucial…and so hard to come by sometimes.
What a great way to spend time together!!! I enjoy getting alone time with each of my two as well.
It’s so very important to make them feel special.
Sounds like fun! I remember reading the story of Brer Rabbit when I was little 🙂
The stories are so very interesting.
That’s great that the girls’ schedules are staggered so that you are able to spend a little time with each one during the day. I’m sure that they treasure those moments. The weekends sound like such fun times. I must admit that you had me at the “special cake pop run.” Where do you get them? I have a sweet tooth like you wouldn’t believe!
Cake pops? We splurge on the Starbucks ones. I’ve tried to make them and it’s just not worth it. Plus, the price drops a quarter after you buy one…so, it’s best to get a couple:)
I’ve been trying to find a way to get some more one-on-one time with my “big” kid lately, too…I love doing stuff with him, and it’s so hard when I’m always getting on to him about sharing and being nice to his sister.
Oh, that’s definitely a hard balance…I have to get on my older two a lot, so hopefully, the special outings and time together makes up for it:)
Aww your daughters are so beautiful! I can tell they had a great time.
This is great! Mummy and the girls!!
I try to get us together at least once a week for a picture! I hope they appreciate it one day.
And even if they don’t say it now, they will when they’re older!
I sure hope so!
Looks like y’all were having so much fun!!
They snuggled up next to me, one on each side…so enjoyed that!
Having more than one child, it is so hard to get one on one time. I’ve started getting it with my youngest while my oldest is at preschool and before her nap and then with my oldest during the baby’s afternoon nap. I know there won’t always be nap time to make things so cut and dry but it works for now.
Yep, the youngest’s nap time is when most of it happens. I don’t know what I’ll do when that is gone.
Looks like you all had a great time.
It was a lot of fun…I think we all enjoyed our special time.
