How to Print Instagram Photos + DIY Wall Canvas Art
The digital age of pictures has really changed how we operate. I remember when you took pictures, had to drop them off and wait a week to have the film, yes film developed (if you don’t know what I’m talking about, just smile and nod). Now, we take pictures with our digital cameras and even more frequently with our iPhones. We load them to instagram and to facebook, and then we hope they stay floating around in the digital space. Thus, we end up with no pictures printed at home and relying on our phones as our photo albums. But now, places like Walgreens are making it super easy to print Instagram photos right from your phone with the #WalgreensApp! And they are ready within an hour! Check out my google+ story to see more about my shopping experience.
I really enjoyed making a “1” for E’s first birthday, and then turning those pictures into an E for her room. But, I had left the older two girls out. I needed to fix this because I haven’t recently printed any pictures out for them.
I decided to print photos from my iPhone and have them help me make canvases to decorate their room. I printed Instagram photos out that had importance, or captured something memorable, ran to the store and picked them up. I also picked up some canvases, paints and brushes from my local craft store. And, of course, had my handy mod podge nearby.
It helps to have some young and willing helpers that have picked out their favorite colors to paint their respective canvas. And paint they did!
Once they were dry (it took about 4 days for the 4 year old’s canvas to dry…she used 3/4 of a bottle of paint), I took the Instagram prints and mapped out how I was going to do their first initial on the canvas. Admittedly, some letters are harder than others, so experiment a little. Also, have a couple extra pictures in case you plan didn’t work out (I had 50 for each kid…just a couple too many. But, now I have pictures to pass along to family!)
Once I was satisfied with the layout, I individually adhered each picture (from the back) onto the canvas so they wouldn’t move around.
And then covered the entire canvas in mod podge. I only used one coat and found the finish nice, but you can apply as many coats as you desire, but let each one dry before applying the next. Remember mod podge goes on with a little color, but dries completely clear.
And, the final product. An easy canvas project to decorate the kids room. Something they took part in, so they will appreciate, and also has pictures of them with events and activities they will remember.
- Print Instagram photos
- Cover canvas in paint in whatever color/design you’d like and allow to dry.
- Map out the pictures on the canvas in the shape/letter/number you’d like.
- Apply mod podge to the back of pictures to keep them in place.
- Cover the entire canvas with mod modge to seal the pictures as well as the paint. Allow to dry.
- Apply as many coats as you’d like until you are satisfied with the finish. Dry.
- Hang on wall.
These are so cute!
those are great – what a good idea. Could even do a wedding theme with the couples last name initial.
That would be a great idea!
those turned out great…
thanks for the tips on making these 🙂
Sure thing. I forgot to include that it’s likely less than $10 a piece for them, too. Especially if you use a coupon for the canvases!
This is so so good. I’ve always wondered how to further extract the Instagram photos!!
I hope you are able to take advantage of something like this!
Love this – so super-easy and love the look!!! Great to do with kids. Thank you

I’m doing this next week. I have a ton of photos on IG that I would love to print up and display. Cute craft too.
I was in the same boat….and I never print pictures.
This turned out really cute and I love that it is so easy to print Instgram photos.
Love this idea! I had no idea Walgreens printed these. Definitely doing this!
That is such a cute idea! I like how the kids got to help personalize their canvas.
This is a great idea, and having the kids help makes it even better.
