The love for reading continues

The girls have been celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday this week at school with his silly characters and fun books. They get a hoot out of the made up words, funny pictures and tongue twisters that even get mommy and daddy to say the wrong thing.

Kohl's Cares and Dr. Seuss

Almost all of our Dr. Seuss books and stuffed animals are from the Kohl’s Cares program. My mom and sister really enjoy shopping there, so they often pick up one of the $5 Dr. Seuss books and plush toys. This Spring 2013 Kohl’s Cares merchandise program will be featuring Dr. Seuss books (The Cat in The Hat, Horton Hears a Who!, Sleep Book, ABC’s and Happy Birthday to You!) and corresponding plush toys.  From each book and toy purchase Kohl’s donates 100 percent of the net profit to children’s health and education initiatives nationwide.

Since the program’s inception in 2000, the Kohl’s Cares philanthropic program has raised more than $208 million for children’s health and education programs in local communities across the country. You can see that our family has helped make a little part of that. Back in 2006 when our first was born, she received four books and their matching characters which are still enjoyed today.

Even at just 2 months old (wayyyyy back in 2006), she was happy about her stuffed Grinch.

In addition to the merchandise program, Kohl’s Cares features a scholarship program, which recognizes more than 2,200 young volunteers each year with scholarships and prizes; the Associates in Action program, which encourages associate volunteerism and has donated more than $61 to youth-focused nonprofit organizations to date; and fundraising gift cards for schools and youth-serving nonprofit organizations.

  6. grandma pat says:

good books, good pirce and 100% of the proceeds for childrens health and education. Win win all the way around. I also think DPS drivers should carry Dr. Suess books for DWI testing. They twist the tongue without a few adult beverges.

  7. I do love those books and plushies. I can’t decide if I like the Grinch or the Sneetches better. When I was teaching, Dr. Seuss books were a favorite to use to teach difficult concepts on a middle school level. My kids LOVED the Sneetches! I think the milkshake may need a plushie Sneetch to go with the book we have. Guess that means a trip to Kohl’s! 🙂
