Learn, Create and Share with LeapFrog

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. I MAY EARN FROM QUALIFYING PURCHASES.

We’ve been a LeapFrog family for years.  It’s important to us that games and electronics have an educational value.  LeapFrog products do that.  The girls already love their letter tracing LeapFrog, their Violet Puppy and our original Tag reader.

But, in a house without a tablet and two little girls that like to use our Droid phone, we were very excited to try out the LeapPad.  From the award winning educational toy company comes LeapPad, the learning tablet just for kids. With a built-in camera, and a library of 100+ cartridge games and activities (which have to be purchased separately), the durable LeapPad features innovative apps that inspire creativity and turn reading into fun and games. It’s a new way to learn, a new way to play – a new way to unlock your child’s potential!

LeapPad

  • From school basics to passion topics– the games and apps work for kids of many ages.  We had 2-9 year olds and they all enjoyed it.
  • Experience a brand new way to read– this was very helpful for our daughter who is learning to read.  Most words she can sound out, but this helped like the Tag reader, but also animated the books.
  • Imagine, create and share– there are some fun thinks like the camera to take pictures of yourself, and then edit them or create your own story.
  • Share achievements– the LeapPad can be attached to your computer and then the creations can be shared with family and friends.
  • Make LeapPad your very own– each person can have their own “log-in” so the games are stored and levels kept for each individual child.

Our three year old really loved the painting app.

And the 5 year old like everything on it. In fact, I’m excited to get some harder games for her as the ones on there were pretty easy for her to master.

Something like these addition games would be great for her.

But, look at some of the other examples of games and apps that can be purchased for the LeapPad.

The LeapFrog Tag System was also a hit.  You can have up to 10 books on it at a time, which if I remember is an improvement from the previous Tag we own.  It really helped the 5 year olds with their reading on tougher words.

The map that was used with the Tag reader was a lot of fun.  Here a brother and sister play with it together.  It has different levels and different games on it to help you find countries and more.  Mr. Serious and I even enjoyed challenging each other.  And, grandma and grandpa had fun, too.

At the end of the night, it was nice to see the girls playing, each on a separate LeapFrog system (and you can even see one of our other LeapFrog games in the background).

The parents and children that attended were very excited about the LeapPad products and I imagine Santa got some new ideas for Christmas.

Things we’d like to see improved:

I wish it came the LeapPad can with rechargeable batteries or a way to charge it…it goes through a lot of batteries.
It would also be nice if the pen was attached at the top or something like that.  It’s on the right hand side which made it a little harder for my left handed daughter to use.  She had to tug on the string and sometimes modify the way she used it to get the pen where she wanted it. (Same as another little boy that attended that is also left handed).

Overall, these are great educational toys. They are little on the pricey side, but the girls have wanted to play with them and use them everyday since they’ve seen them!

I received free LeapFrog products in order to host a Learn, Create and Share Party.  LeapFrog did not influence my opinions expressed here as a result.

  1. I am totally going to ask for LeapFrog products for my kids for Christmas. My daughter is 4 years old and beginning to learn to read. These look like fabulous, fun and educational products!

    1. Yes, it is awesome for the helping to read and also writing…there are so many things to do with it.

  2. don’t you just love the leappad?! i originally wanted the leapster explorer 2 for sydney’s birthday, but my father sent me the link to the “new” leappad and i was sold. i agree — this thing sucks the life out of batteries. i need to get some rechargeable ones asap. we did get the a/c adapter accessory, so we’ve been using that when we are close to plugs.

    happy learning!

    1. I didn’t realize there was an ac adapter…we’ll have to look into one of those. Because the 4 batteries thing is killer! But, man do the girls love playing with it. Does Ben try to play with it, too?

  3. This is actually the exact thing we want to get Tucker for Christmas…the Leap Pad, because he loves playing on our iPhones! So glad to hear good reviews about it!

    1. Yeah, I’m thinking we’ll have to get another one! And, maybe an AC adapter, because it kills the batteries!

Great review! I am debating getting one for my daughter. Just wish the apps and games weren’t so expensive
