Childhood Cartoons Make a Come Back with Netflix
Earlier this week, I attended an event featuring Netflix and all of the new Family shows that have been added. We’ve already been enjoying Netflix for a couple months now, but we hadn’t even realized they were adding even more family shows.
At the event, the girls participated in a scavenger hunt. They had to read their clues which found them a prize, and a hint at one of the newest Netflix Families shows that has been added to their line up: My Little Pony.
Once they found their mini-My Little Ponies (and he got her soft plush one, you can see it in the background here), it was time to head inside to learn more about the shows. But, first, food…where we got more hints at the new shows: Smurfs (see the cupcakes) and Strawberry Shortcake (see them in the background) are joining the Netflix Family shows. It’s even more fun eating yummy snacks when they give you hints at new things to come.
Once we settled with our snacks (don’t worry, there was hummus and fruit skewers, too, oh and Scooby Snacks, another hint),
we headed to the living room and logged into Netflix and looked at the family-friendly TV shows from the 1990s to see what other shows were featured. There are shows like Woody Woodpecker, Dexter’s Laboratory, Bobby’s World, The Magic School Bus and Care Bears.
At our house, we mostly stream our TV shows and movies the Roku (because it plugs into the TV and you are good to go), but sometimes, we’ll use our tablet or something like Meghan’s iPad. Lately, we’ve been watching nature shows in the evening as a family before bed. It’s amazing how much the girls have retained.
While the girls colored their masks inspired by more Netflix shows, we learned some interesting facts.
Netflix.com/Families features several new categories including Family Movie Night, Are We There Yet and TV for Curious Kids. I didn’t even think about it like this, but a year of Netflix costs less than taking a family of 5 to 2 movies.
Not only was it much appreciated hanging out with JaMonkey and family at her house, it was also nice learning with Southern Girl Ramblings, Kayla Aimee and My Brown Baby!
Netflix.com/Families is a new destination designed to meet your family’s summertime entertainment needs. On Netflix.com/Families, Parents can find lists of movies and TV shows for all kinds of special summer moments.
Visit www.Netflix.com/Families for more information on the best ways to stream as well as videos about how other families use Netflix.

So glad you came out! JaMonkey was very excited to play with the girls!
The girls enjoyed it, too!
What a fun time! We actually only use Netflix and not cable. I love how it has a “just for kids” screen on their app. My 2-6 yr old kids can turn on the tablet, open netflix and find their shows! Right now their favorites are Transformers, My Little Pony and Super heroes. We do miss Wonder Pets and Backyardigans…sad to see that go…..
We literally just got a note letting us know our cable is going up another $7/month. And we only have the local/basic channels. It’s got to go.
I do remember people were sad about seeing the Nick shows go. Fortunately, my girls never saw them.
Strawberry Shortcake has been available on Netflix streaming for well over a year. My girls watched the entire series from beginning to end while I was preggo with Jami. 😉
Oh…we never have noticed it. the girls are on a Jake and the Neverland Pirates kick right now.
Love how the food was themed to the shows. Netflix is really doing good things for kids nowadays!
After looking at the photos, I stopped and said, “Hey, that’s Jamonkey’s daughter.” I scrolled down and sure enough, it was! My kids love Netflix–they really enjoy some of the old school programs that I watched as a child.
Yep, sure is…we hang out together on occasion!
The new family site that Netflix has launched is a really great resource for summer entertainment. I work from home and with both my daughters home this summer it’s sometimes challenging to balance quality time with my children, keeping the kids entertained and work. Luckily, with this new site it’s really helping me keep the kids entertained while I’m working. Now before I start working we go through and pick the shows or movies they would like to watch while I work. We usually pick 3 shows or 1 movie. When the movie or shows are done, my daughters come and get me for some quality time together. As am writing this post, my daughters are watching Madagascar 3 – Europe’s Most Wanted. They are enjoying a movie while I get some work done. LOVE IT! We always finish the summer day as a family with a great movie. Last night we watched The Three Stooges! Have you seen the movie? It’s HILARIOUS! I love watching movies where we spend the whole time laughing!
I love Netflix for TV shows. No commercials. Choose what you want to watch from a menu. Watch episodes one after another. And I love the new kids area.
No commercials sure is nice. I also enjoy the premium TV shows we can watch and catch up on after the kiddos are in bed.
I have Netflix and cable but I find we watch more Netflix. There are so many great programs for m 4-year old.
I just received notice our bill is going up..so I think we will be cutting local channels, too.
Looks like you all had a great time and it was fun following everything you all were doing through your instagram. We love our Netflix subscription and use it on specific learning days (Tech Tuesday, Artsy Thursday). It’s a great supplement to lessons we have for each day.
So, are you homeschooling the kiddos? Or just supplementing?
Impressive that they only watch 2 days a week.
We love Netflix Families! We used it a lot on our last trip and it saved us a ton of time searching for great shows to watch with the kids.
Was this a road trip? Did you just use your 3G/4G to stream it?
We love our Netflix!! There is always something for everybody to watch. Your cupcakes are sooooo cute!
I wish I could take credit for the cupcakes..Meghan made them. She was the hostess.
we LOVED bobbys world
That’s such a good one.
I’m so glad to see some our favorite cartoons making a comeback. Netflix has really helped to save us from boredom on rainy days this summer.
my daughter watches a ton of Netflix for kids – Scooby Doo is one of her favorites!
We use to have Netflix awhile back but we couldn’t afford to keep it as we have cable. But, I’m considering dropping cable as this looks perfect, my kids love classic cartoons.
Carter will be so happy with some of the new shows…he LOVES Scooby Doo!
This sounds great!!! I will definitely be checking this out.
