Our 3 Day Potty Training | WW

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. I MAY EARN FROM QUALIFYING PURCHASES.

alternate title: How we spent our New Years.

Friday, December 31st, I decided (very much on a whim) to purchase the 3 day potty training e-book and go for it.  A friend on facebook did it, so I knew we could do it, too.

We spent a lot of time doing mad dashes to the potty…and the entire weekend in the house.  In fact, I didn’t leave.  And, I stayed in PJs all weekend long.

And, I sound like a broken record "tell mommy when you need to pee, okay?"

We seemed to have a breakthrough Sunday afternoon (when daddy and #1 went to the store…why didn’t I think to kick them out sooner).

I was nervous, but I had to go back to work Monday, so there wasn’t anymore time.  I took her to school Monday morning with a bag full of clothes and prayed for the best.

I nervously called at lunch time Monday.

She.was.dry!

It really worked.

(Well, a couple caveats.  Naptimes haven’t been accident free, and after three nights, we went to pullups at night.  And, the poo?  Still working on that.)

So basically, we crammed all of the accidents and crazy running to the potty trips into one weekend.

And, this is how the weekend was spent.  Pants-less.  With a drink and a parent nearby.  And puzzles.  Lots and lots of puzzles.

3 day potty training

  1. Very cool! I didn’t know that you were potty training, I’m so behind! Happy that it was such an awesome success but keep us updated on the good (and the bad). I might be needing it in 2+ years 😉

    1. We (I) really just decided to do it, and started that day! I think it’s better that we didn’t plan it, or we might have talked ourselves out of it.

  2. I’m saving this post so that in a couple of years when I am hopefully attempting to potty train our unborn future children, I can email you and beg for advice 🙂

    1. That’s a good idea:) I like that you are planning on potty training your unborn future children.

Look at you! Mother of the year!!!!

    1. Ha…hardly. But, I might tell the girls that in a few years.

  4. dude you are a total rockstar!!

(and so is that sweet little girl)

    long distance high five!!

    1. Yes…it is:) I bought the ebook from 3daypottytraining.com. Totally worth it.

  5. Great job! Great progress so far!
We had a lot of bottomless days too. :o)

    1. Yes, thank you! honestly, it is definitely harder on mom and dad than the kiddo.

  6. Potty training is not my favorite. I do the same thing I stay home and don’t leave the house for a week or sometimes five days. It usually works but it is something i dread.

    1. It definitely isn’t fun. When the weekend was over, I went to the UPS store just to get out of the house by myself.

  7. How exciting to be diaper free. I’d say it was worth it to only have 3 days of accidents/inconvenience!

  8. Your kids are growing up WAY too fast for me…seriously! I’m so proud of Nat though!! WAY TO GO!!!

    Love, Mere

  9. You need to buy some babylegs leg warmers, then her little legs will be warm! My son is too potty training. He is peeing, only when I remind him to go every hour or so. He isn’t telling me yet that he has to go. 🙁 He also is still pooping in his underwear, no idea what is up with that, what’s the difference?

    1. Honestly, we have them, and I thought about using them, but then, I didn’t want to have to clean them with an accident, either. Fortunately, it wasn’t too cold here.

Thankfully, we’ve only had 2 poop accidents.

And, she’s very good about telling us when she needs to pee.

  10. That is awesome! You are essentially now where we are with MM except lately he’s been wearing underwear at naptime / bedtime also. But that is still so new that I’m not willing to call it normal yet!

    1. If we have to buy pullups to use 2 a day, that’s still an improvement for us. We’ll just wait until she’s dry at naptime and we can remind her to go before she lays down.

  11. How exciting!! She’ll be there before you know it! Evan still has to wear pullups at night b/c we never did get to the “dry at night” part. I think he drinks too much during the day. Potty Training is NOT one of my most favorite things to do. 🙂

    1. Definitely not a favorite. And, one pullup at night sure still beats diapers all day!

  12. She’s picking it up pretty quick! My kids did nighttime pull-ups for quite a while after the day thing.

  13. Congratulations! I’m not looking forward to Potty Training Part 2. I am, however, looking forward to no diapers and a significant increase to our monthly pizza budget. (1 pack of diapers = 1 pizza night)

    1. Heck yes! Definitely an advantage. I won’t know what to do with that extra money.

  14. Isn’t being diaper free……freeing? I can remember it was a happy day when no one was wearing diapers around my house. Good luck with moving forward. 🙂

    1. It’s been going very well! Two out of diapers? Awesome.

  15. Hey girl! I saw your blog link on the Atlanta Bloggers Meetup I was copied on so I decided to visit. Congrats on the potty training! I did a three day weekend with my daughter last year and it worked! I sent her to daycare with probably 12 pairs of extra clothes and she stayed dry from that point on, even for nap time! But I still can’t get her to go dry through the night and she is 3 already. Any tips??

    1. I’m hoping for nap dryness at this point, so I’ve got nothing for night time.

  16. wow, we might need to check out that three day thing
    great job!

That looks like a handy vinyl-backed picnic blanket she is sitting on. Maybe you should send Slade a thank-you note? 🙂 Congratulations!

    1. Pretty sure it wasn’t from him, actually. We got it from Mr. Serious’ job a while ago..I think.

  18. We did a similar program for potty training. For all my kids it was 48 hours or less and they were trained. It was totally awesome!

Glad it worked the same for you. 🙂

  19. I’m impressed…though I’ll admit I was a little scared at what a picture of that might look like to match this post, but I should have known better from you!

  20. Yeah!!! That is a truly awesome way to end/begin the year.

You are lucky. I working with my almost 3 year old boy. We are on day 3. I think he’s getting used to pee-ing in his pants as a new way of life. This morning while sitting on my lap, he pee-ed on me. Moments before we were about leave for daycare. LOL

    1. Oh, no! I hope he gets it soon.

If not, I purchased the ebook at 3daypottytraining.com. It was less than $25 and totally worth it. And, they have a help desk where people answer very quickly.

      1. jenny chamberlain says:

Thanks for the ebook recommendation. I’ll check it out.

I stumbled upon your blog after searching Google for potty training help. Thank you for posting this, and HELP! My little one is 2 & 1/2 and I have no idea what I’m doing, but I got her a new potty chair last night (after failing last summer and giving up for a while), put her in underwear with plastic pants over this moring, and camped out with her in front of the tv on/near the potty chair until nap time.

She peed once in the chair and got a jelly bean (her pee pee treat). Peed on the floor 1/2 hour later. I out her back in a diaper a couple hours later, just before naptime, and she ran and hid to poop in the diaper. She’s napping in a new diaper now. How can I feel defeated already? I am so lost and am feel like I’m doing this ALL WRONG! It sounds like you are doing everything right! Tips? Advice? HELP!

    1. I’m glad you found me.

I can’t take all of the credit. I purchased the ebook at 3daypottytraining.com. It was less than $25 and totally worth it. And, they have a help desk where people answer very quickly. (I found the code INSIDER online to save 10%, too).

Then, we followed it. It was hell, I won’t lie. We were stuck at home for three days and she couldn’t leave my side! But, it really seems to work. So, give it a try.

I admit, during those three days, there was a big sense of defeat, many times, but looking back, we crammed all of that ick into three days instead of three months.

Good luck! I seriously recommend the ebook. It took about 20 minutes to read it.

  23. ughhh, you are bringing back some memories! i hope it continues to go well:)

    1. And, it won’t be long until you have to do it again…

  24. I have gotten both of my boys mostly potty trained within a week. It does take staying at home and just concentrating on that though! Here’s hoping it continues to go well.

    1. Better every day. We’ve had a couple accidents, but definitely an improvement. Now, if only we could get naptime and bedtime down.

  25. Hoping for the best for you too! It took a bit longer than 3 days with Lizzie but I have heard lots of friends swear by the 3 day method. I have not read the e-book, I will have to do that for David. But I’ve heard that boys potty train later than girls (boys are just behind girls in everything LOL) so I won’t try till either he shows interest on he is at least 2.5 years old. By that time though, I will be reading this book!

My Lizzie is 3.5 yrs old and still has accidents at night if we fail to have her pee before bed and she still pees in her carseat on long car rides….but so far that is it!

    1. The 3 day method is much better than we did with Iz. So much faster.

  26. I have a friend that is thinking about doing the 3 day challenge too. She just doesnt want to spend the money! I’ve heard its worth it though! Do you recommend it?!?!
We did pull ups at night for a while after Landon was potty trained!

    1. Yes, I recommend it. Think of the cost the price of two packs of diapers. But, once you start. You can’t go back.

  27. Whoooo hoooo! Pant–less?!! Wow! You must really have trust in that little angel!:)

    1. Pants-less, yet. But, only because that makes the clean up easier, and lets them know when they are going.
