Our First Family 3D Movie Experience | Mars Needs Moms | PSF

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. I MAY EARN FROM QUALIFYING PURCHASES.

The girls and I ventured to our very first 3D Movie together (with Daddy meeting us there on his way home from his trip).

We got our 3D glasses and then waited for seats (finally taking some with "reserved" written on them).

About 2.3 seconds later, #2 said "I ready go home now."

Ummmm…let’s get this movie started.

It started and the theater settled down and put their glasses on (the girls were sooo stinking cute in their glasses, but we weren’t even allowed to have our phones on, so no pictures).

Mars Needs Moms

Mars Needs Moms?  It’s rated PG (I should have looked into that).  It’s listed as a family movie.  I would add to that "a family with kids like 8 and up."  Our sensitive four year old found a lot of the movie scary (and I have to agree with her, as a four year old, watching somebody potentially lose their mom, it would be tough).  And there were guns and lasers and rays and really scary bad people.

The graphics for the movie were really fabulous.  And, the 3D sure added a great element of depth to the screen (without making too many things fly out at us).  At approximately 85 minutes, it’s a shorter movie and good for kids.  It’s definitely action packed, too.

For us, the plot was a little dark (you don’t know what is going on with the mother for almost the entire movie) and frantic with the main character Milo and sidekick Gribble constantly going and doing.

Nine-year-old Milo finds out just how much he needs his mom when she’s nabbed by Martians who plan to steal her "mom-ness" for their own young.

Milo’s quest to save his mom involves stowing away on a spaceship, navigating an elaborate, multi-level planet and taking on the alien nation and their leader, the Supervisior. With the help of a tech-savvy, underground earthman named Gribble and his bionic underground pet named Two-Cat and a rebellious Martian girl called Ki, Milo just might find his way back to his mom — in more ways than one.

After the movie, we headed to a chocolate shop for pictures, treats and balloon butterflies.  The girls were so excited about them they wouldn’t even let me take a picture.

Mars Needs Moms

The older kids left the theater really liking and enjoying the movie.  Honestly, I think our girls (4 and 2) were just a little too young for the movie.

  1. Glad to hear your review. Not sure I would even take my almost 7 year old boy. He’s “toughened” up a bit lately but he’s still pretty sensitive too. I do like the pic of the three of you though! 🙂

    1. It’s odd because in the previews I’ve seen I didn’t think it was going to be nearly as scary as it was for the girls…maybe I wasn’t paying close enough attention?

  2. I have to agree with Elaine. SO glad you reviewed this as I think it would scare my little ones as well.

    1. Apparently, I’m not the only one that thought it, either!

PS I keep trying to go leave a comment, but I have a hard time with Disqus being blocked.

  3. Look at you! A movie reviewer! I think I like the idea of chocolate and balloons better than the movie :O)

    1. We also liked them, too!

I’m guessing I won’t be asked to do many more movie reviews!

  4. I love the look on Nat’s face in the first photo!
You can’t go wrong with pink balloons!

    1. I seriously died from laughing when I saw that one, too.

  5. I actually never took my 4 y old to a movie, I dont think she can sit through it even though she sits through shows and performances easily.

    very nice picture of you!

    1. Our four year old can definitely make it…but not if it’s scary!

  6. grandma Pat says:

the picture with the astronaut is hillarious. Glad the girls sat through a movie. Good for them and you. They are growing up so drn fast.

  7. Thanks for the review. 🙂 I was wondering about this movie. My older kids would probably like it, so we may have to see it when it comes out at the dollar theater. Love the cute picture of you with your girls.

    1. Yes, dollar theater with the older ones would be good. I can’t imagine paying $10+ per person.

    1. Yes, a fun outing..just don’t ask the oldest what she thought of it….

    1. Nat’s face is awesome, right? And, Iz eating the bracelet…they are too much.

  8. What a fun picture! Great that you got to go and experience 3D. From the previews, it does seem like a movie for kids a bit older. My boys and I saw Tangled in 3D. My preschooler wouldn’t wear the glasses, but my baby lasted with them for a half-hour, which I thought was pretty good.

    1. The oldest was good with the glasses, but the youngest had no interest in wearing them.

Guess I should pay more attention to previews..but I was told it was a “family movie.”

  9. Hey thanks for the review… Glad you all got to go together for this wonderful experience, even if it was a little too much for the girls.
I have really been enjoying the new 3D movies that I’ve seen lately.

    1. This was my first 3D experience in a long time. It was sort of ehhh for me.
