Our Generation Dolls Review

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. I MAY EARN FROM QUALIFYING PURCHASES.

Recently we were sent an Our Generation doll and RV Seeing You Camper for the girls.

The girls have been into playing together and pretend play lately. Thank goodness. And doing it fairly well (yes, we still have sharing issues…it’s a work in progress).  When they opened the box and saw what was inside, they went nuts.

I didn’t even know they had that much excitement in them! There was a lot of box tearing, plastic attachy-things-removing and tape unsticking, but when they finally got it all out, they couldn’t stop playing with her.

Holly joined us for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as car trips and family outings. It was like we had another kid with us. The girls thoroughly enjoyed her company!

About Our Generation Dolls

Holly

The pictures don’t do this doll justice. Holly is a whopping 18” tall girl Our Generation doll. That’s like almost the size of my children when they were born. She comes with two outfits, a school-girl outfit and a sports outfit.

They both enjoyed changing her outfit, but they did get frustrated with the skirt and stopped using it. It is only perfectly sized for her, and the velcro isn’t very sticky, so the skirt wouldn’t stay on her. Maybe adding elastic would help?

These Our Generation girls come with their own story unique to each doll. The books talk all about their history and help teach lessons to our children and are models for the behaviors and qualities we would like to see in them.

Our Generation dolls also have hobbies that can mirror hobbies of our children, or hobbies that our children might want to learn more about.

Our Generation dolls are soft and have removable fabric clothing. They have life-like hair that can be brushed or styled (and detangled and restyled if needed).

Some of the Our Generation dolls come with hair extensions, comb and clips or other accessories that go with their story.

So many of the dolls have different looks and back stories also. It’s not hard to find a doll that looks just like your child or a selected gift recipient.

Our girls get a kick out of their dolls looking like them, as well as their dolls looking like their friends.

Our Generation Dolls Pricing

Many of the dolls are reasonably priced at $24.99 only at Target and some a little higher because of different accessories or outfits. Our Generation dolls make very affordable gifts and accessories you can order online or pick up in Target stores.

Our Generation accessories, clothes, vehicles books and more have varying prices, but start at very low, around $10 and go up from there.

Compared to some other similar dolls that are over $100, this is a great deal.

American Girl and Our Generation Dolls Can Share

Do you or your kids have American Girl Dolls? What’s really cool is American Girl (like our American Girl Gabby) and Our Generation Dolls and accessories are totally interchangeable.

Since the dolls are all the same height (18 inches), and pretty much the same size, their clothes and shoes fit all of the dolls. This makes dressing them and changing their clothes even more fun.

Our girls enjoy making their dolls had different outfits and looks an interchanging the clothes an accessories. When they are all bunched together, I don’t think you can even tell who is “supposed” to be wearing what!

What works with one will work with the other and vise versa. So, they all fit in the RV that was made for Our Generation Dolls. And Holly’s backpack works great on their American Girl, Nanea, too. American Girl and Our Generation Dolls really are interchangeable!

Our Generation dolls make great dolls to see how your child will treat their doll and take care of it. I have many friends that intend use Our Generation Dolls as a “test run” for more expensive dolls and then when or if they do go the more expensive route.

They find that their children play with them all equally and they swap clothes and play together very easily.

Homes, RVs, Tents and More

The RV has pretty much been everywhere in our house. All of the dolls that we own have slept in it, too (they were beyond thrilled to discover the couch folds out to a bed). There’ve been quite a few sleepovers.

Our middle daughter thinks that it has to be set up, just so. In fact, she will constantly play with it, and then set it up so that it matches the book and picture that came with it.

Apparently, when a toy comes with pictures, that is exactly how it should be set up! She was super impressed with herself.

  8. This is so cute!!! Sounds like they really enjoyed the doll. I used to be like your middle daughter. Everything had to be perfect. My brothers use to mess my set up on purpose to make me mad. I would set it up all over again and get my revenge by telling our mom.

  9. My girls love the Our Generation dolls and accessories. They each have an American Girl doll and an OUr Generation doll. WE tend to buy them the accessories of the Our Generation because they cost less and they have just as much fun with them. Recently we found that Walmart now has a similar line but we have tried their stuff yet

    1. Very good to know. We don’t have any AG dolls/accessories, etc.

  10. OMG the “Great for traveling alone or pulling an RV” comment got me about the Jeep. I am cracking up!! Please sign me up for that camper. It’s adorable!

Thanks for sharing this! My lo and my nieces have been really into playing with dolls the past year. They each have an AG doll and an OG doll. I get them the OG accessories all the time! They are great quality and the price is unbeatable! 🙂

  12. I cannot get Banessa Eve’s hat off
Is it supposed to be able to come off?

    1. I’m sorry. We don’t have that one to know if it will come off. I wouldn’t try too hard. But I wonder if it has little plastic tags like your clothes do at the store that you can snip?

  13. Harriet notowitz says:

I just read your response to my email sent yesterday
I mis typed the doll’ name
    It is Vanessa
There are none of the tags you mentioned attaching the hat
There are 4 spots under the hat that seemed sewn on but It.s impossible to see beneath the hair
I have also bought accessories and outfits for this doll but will she always have a red sequined hat on her head?
This is really a big deal because I live in FL and I am in NC where my granddaughter lives
She has already named this doll and slept eith her last night (3 yrs old)
We will not see each other until her birthday in April
Any advice for me? Thank your response that you so quickly sent

    1. Hi Harriet-

I’m sorry. I’m not familiar with that doll either. I would suggest you reach out directly to Our Generation Dolls (maybe there’s a phone number that came with the box?). I’m sure there’s a way to get it off, but I’m not familiar with that doll to tell you how. Hopefully, OG can help you. This is what I found for their contact info: OGdolls@battatco.com or call us at 1-866-665-5524. Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

  14. Does anyone likes our generation dolls please tell me

    1. Our girls like them and like that their clothes and accessories interchange with American Girl Dolls.

  15. I wish the hair would hold a curl. I realize it they suggest no curling iron or heat rollers but I carefully use warm rollers and get beautiful results however the curls just don’t last . The jagged hair cut is actually beautiful when curled but not so when straight. Is the hair Dynel nylon or what? There must be a way to permanently get even a slight bend in the hair shaft. Thanks, donnapotter. PS: Leslie & pet huskie ; Pilot aviatrix.

    1. I’m sorry…not sure what the hair is made out of. I wonder how they get it to hold a curl?

  16. Ellory Jackson says:

I personally like AG dolls better, they’re more poseable, but many main clothing resource is Our Generation. I really want that Jeep, btw.

  17. Shelagh Swift says:

Hi. I live in the UK and my 7 year old granddaughter loves Caitlin, her Generation doll although we are not allowed to say that she is a doll – she is her adoptive sister!!
In the UK the doll’s clothes are a lot more expensive. When you say $10, it costs treble that in the UK so I am going to sew and knit some clothes for her and am hoping my granddaughter will help. Any suggestions?

    1. I have a big smile on my face hearing about her adopted sister. That’s so sweet.

I’ve heard if people sewing and making their own clothes. I would search online patterns for American Girl Doll or Our Generation Doll. I know that I’ve seen them before and you might be able to find them free or affordably. I’m not a sewing or knitting person at all to help beyond that. Please do come back and let us know what you find?

Or maybe you could find a friend in the States that could ship a care package.

    2. I have found so many free patterns on Pinterest. I have three granddaughters that I make doll clothes for their dolls. I also have bought patterns and made them. Personally, I add a little extra in the patterns to make them slightly larger. It makes it easier for the girls to take the clothes on and off. Newborn “onesies” can be cut and used as shirts and even dresses.
      Have fun with it!
      Joy
