Pen obsessed writers unite!

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. I MAY EARN FROM QUALIFYING PURCHASES.

For as long as I can remember, way back to my school days, I was obsessed with pens and highlighters. I always wanted new ones; different colors, different styles, different tips. And I was particular, too. I couldn’t use generics, they had to be name-brand, quality pens.

I can recall joining a “club” (that we made) where we all bought different pens and pen packs and traded for what we wanted in the set. Yes, a little crazy, right?

In junior high and high school, my notebooks would look like rainbows. I had to make things stand out. I would have several pens on my desk at one time. And, in math classes, only mechanical please. I couldn’t stand anything less than the sharpest pencil possible all the time!

Of course this all translated to my teaching days. I had to have purple and green pens in my mix. I just couldn’t do all blue and black. Too darn generic. I was possessive, too. Don’t try to take my purple pen from me.

Now that I work from home, my notes (which are everywhere) are often in different colors (never color-coded mind you), and with different doodles on them. I still have to have them, though. Honestly, I don’t like sharing with my girls, either, but I do.

I also like to send out handwritten notes via snail mail, too. Who doesn’t like to see a hand address envelope and letter in with their pile of immediately-go-to-the-recycle-bin mail and bills? This girl does. Wouldn’t you know it, these notes are also typically in a fun color, and written with a nice pen, too.

  1. I love me some pens, pencils and highlighters too!!! I recently found some at Dollar Tree that are NOT name brand (gasp!!)! They are now my VERY favorite I have ever had and they were only $1 for 4 colors!! But if you ask me about pens & pencils that’s another story! I have to have a certain brand & don’t mess with them either!!! LOL!!!

  2. I like pens that write thick and are ‘inky’. I want lots of ink, with little effort, and a nice fat tip. Those skinny ones make my bad handwriting worse. I like to color code school notes, too. In college I was crazy with the colors, but then when I was taking exams I could picture the color of the notes and what they said so it really worked for me.

    1. Funny, I tend to like the medium point ones, right in the middle. Not too fat (I feel like I smudge them).

  3. I have always loved thick, black gel pens with a clicky top. A nice fat ink line makes me happy. When I was in 6th grade, I vividly remember my best friend had a purple PIlot precise pen. She was so cool!

    1. the purple pilot pens were my favorite. Although, not the gel kind.

  4. i was once that way… loved them and loved trading them… then, as i worked in the restaurant biz and saw how fast people left with my pens, that love slowly slipped away… ha ha ha

    1. Oh, during my many years of waiting tables, I purchased the crappiest of pens. I never brought my good ones to work!

  5. I am the exact same way with my pens and pencils? Each member of my family has a color that I use when adding our events to the calendar. Right now at work I am obsessed with Tul and Foray pens. I better go check out the new Bic lineup!

    1. I’ve never heard of those before.

I’ve moved to a digital calendar (google) because I can sync it on my phone and with my hubby, otherwise, I’d do the same thing.

    1. That’s true. These Bic for her pens seem to combine more of those qualities.

  6. I love highlighters. Any color, shape, or style is fine by me. I read a lot of “real” books, and I like to mark things.

I love pen’s like the one you picture above that are more like a marker because i’m a lefty and if the ink is thick I smear it everywhere, so annoying!

I really like black, fine, felt tipped pens. I suppose that those are really markers, eh?

  11. I love metallic gel pens!

  12. I really like the smoothness of gel pens, usually blue. If not blue, I like fun colors like purple or green. Black is too boring!

  13. I’m totally a pen girl. I’m super picky when it comes to my pens, but I do like that purple one!
