Sisters are awesome

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. I MAY EARN FROM QUALIFYING PURCHASES.

If you are lucky enough to have a sister, I know you totally get it. If not, I’ll do my best to explain, and probably fail miserably.

You probably won’t realize just how much you talk to her on the phone until she goes off and gets married and goes on a honeymoon where you can’t talk to her for seven days. It’s torture. Then, she goes and has a baby and her midwife puts her on phone “punishment” and you have no idea what is going on!

It’s like that.

So, when people ask if I’m happy that I have three girls, and they are getting another sister? Yeah, I think it’s pretty freakin’ awesome.

Because they do things like invite their baby sister into their play room, teach her how to sort crayons, markers and colored pencils and let her color with them.

Sisters-are-awesome

Because when I pick up N and E from school, E grunts and squeals and gestures to N with her little hand circling (that’s all I can see in my rear-view mirror) until N grabs onto her hand and holds it. The whole way home. And N better not dare try to let go of it.

Because E wants to be just like her biggest sister and wear her goggles. And, her biggest sister wants nothing more than to make sure she’s okay and safe (don’t worry, she’s not relied on a childcare in the pool.)

Sisters are awesome

Because they will read to you when mommy is trying to cook dinner and you need a “boo” read to you oh.my.gosh.right.this.second.or.the.book.will.combust.in.my.hand.

Sisters are awesome

Because they will give you a boost into the recliner when you can’t quite get up on it by yourself. And then cheer for you when you are up there.

Because they will share their way too small bike with you and even try to double up with you on it because, why not?

So, yeah. Sisters are pretty much the awesomest thing ever!

(Yes, I’m talking to you, too!)

  3. I do have to agree. And what a sweet post :-). Nobody better than a sister…who else appreciates breast feeding nipple scab pics like a sister? The girls are so adorable with their sweetness! Holding hands, that is too cute. Zeke has no idea how loved she is already!

    1. Nope, she really doesn’t (well, sometimes they will walk up to my belly and tell her. And, then ask if we can name her “cutie head.”

  4. This is the sweetest post! Couldn’t agree more- Love my sister!

  5. I couldn’t agree more, I have two boys and hope they are even half as close as my sister and I are. We talk probably at least! 3 or 4 times a day. And yes whenever she is away from a phone, or I am for an extended time frame it is so annoying!!!!

    1. My sister is the world’s fastest text typist, so that’s often how we talk these days between kids yelling and needing attention!

  6. I just love the relationship your girls have. They are so sweet to each other and are super cute!

    1. Hopefully, you two are able to connect…it’s amazing how much better we get along:)

That is awesome! You did a wonderful job explaining it! I do have a sister, but unfortunately, we have never been very close despite the fact that we are only 1.5 years apart. Now that our dad has passed (he is the one who raised us), we realize we really are the only family we have, and are both working on forming a better relationship. I want it so badly!

    1. My sister and I are 18 months apart, too. And, while we’ve had our bumps, we really have gotten much closer in the last couple years. I hope you and your sister are able to make it work.

Having 2, yes sisters are the best.

  10. Oh man, I always wanted a sister and always felt like I was missing out! Not that I would trade my relationship with my big brother… that’s a special one too… but I wish I got to experience both! Very awesome post.

    1. I don’t have a biological brother or close to me, so I know I missed out on that.

My friend says that women without sisters have to find girlfriends as sister place-holders!

  11. How sweet! I have a brother and two boys so I’ve never gotten to see the joy of sisters. Thanks for giving me a peak inside!

  12. So sweet – love all the pictures! I was an only child growing up so the sibling thing is something I had no experience with until meeting hubby and having our own kiddos.

    1. I’m pretty sure a brother-sister relationship is pretty awesome, too!

  13. My 5 years younger sister and I fought a lot growing up, but now we are best friends!

    1. My sister and I definitely had our share of fights, too!

  14. This post made me smile, I have 3 girls and I hope they will be very close all their lives. I always want them to have a strong and loving connection.
    🙂

    1. I think they will. Of course, there will be good and bad moments, but the goods totally outweigh the bads:)

  15. I have 4 brothers and one sister. You are so right, there is no one else who gets me like my sister.

    1. I don’t have any biological brothers, so I don’t get the benefit of knowing that relationship.

  16. My girls are each others best friends, and I Iove that they will always have each other!

    1. We might end up with best friends fighting over sisters around here, but hopefully not!

  17. Great sentiment! Although, my sister was never that much fun… she was usually too busy trying to beat me up. Hmmm…

    1. Hmmm….maybe you should return the favor.

When we were like 10-20 we definitely had our share of rough times.

  18. I have one sister, and she is by far, the best ever! She is 21 years older than I am, and has pretty much taken over the role of mom since our own mother died 24 years ago. I would be lost without her, that’s for sure.

    1. Oh, you two are very lucky to have each other. I can’t even imagine.

  19. How sweet! I don’t have a sister, but my boys have each other. Brothers are awesome too. 🙂

    1. Oh, I’m sure they are, too…I’m just not lucky enough to have a biological brother (or a step/half even remotely close in age).

  20. So sweet! I’ve always wanted a sister, but I got stuck with 3 brothers.

    1. I doubt “stuck with” is right…I’d like to think I’d like a brother, too!

  21. Aww that’s so sweet! I can’t wait until my son has a sibling, regardless of gender. I have a sister who I love very deeply but she’s 11 years older than me & lived with her dad [half-sisters] so I don’t have the same great bond with her that your girls have.

    1. I have a half-sister too and it’s nothing like this (she’s also 13 yrs younger), so I totally understand.

  22. Yep. I am totally jealous! I have ALWAYS wanted a sister. And my poor Melody doesn’t have one either. 🙁 I have to say though, that on the flip side, girls with sisters sometimes don’t understand just how important girlfriends are to those of us without sisters. My bestie doesn’t have a sister either…and we always say we are each other’s sisters. See?! That’s how hard it is for us sister-less girls…we have to make-believe that we have them! Ha! Your girls certainly are blessed to have each other!!

    1. I never thought of the making up sisters thing. So many of my friends had only sisters or mostly sisters growing up. That does make girlfriends that much more important.

  23. I love my sister – we’ve become especially close as adults. She lives so far away though 🙁

    1. Yes, the adult thing has definitely made things better for my sister and I…she lives in Texas, so not the closest either, but I think that makes us appreciate each other that much more!

  24. Awww. This just makes me so weepy. They are so lucky! And now there will be even numbers! It could NOT get anymore perfect than that. What lucky ladies.

I have a sister, but we are not close at all. We are six years apart and so completely different. And she was hideously mean growing up (I still don’t think she likes me very much). I have tried to be close to her many times but it is difficult. We do come together well when there is a family crisis, but other than that I think we are just cordial. 🙁

You and your girls are SO lucky.

    1. The evensies will either be really good, or really bad (when they side against each other).

That’s a real bummer that you guys don’t get along. But, a mean sister is no fun (then again, my sister and I definitely had our share of “mean” moments.

  25. I have six sisters and I agree while they get on my nerves it’s so much fun having a sister. I miss them a lot because I’m the only one who lives here.

    1. We definitely have our “get on each others nerves” moments, but the good ones outweigh the bad.

  26. Christina Strapp says:

I have a sister and we are 2 years apart. We are best friends and talk all the time. I have a daughter and we are trying for baby #2. I would like a boy but wouldn’t mind having another little girl 🙂
