Date Night + Summer of Games

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. I MAY EARN FROM QUALIFYING PURCHASES.

Last weekend, we snuck away for a little date night with friends. Moms, dads, you know how rare these events are.  We were treated to an evening at Dave and Buster’s to check out their newest games and menu for their Summer of Games event. This summer, there are eight new games. The games include giant-sized versions of well-known mobile games, such as Temple Run and Cut the Rope, redesigned to allow players to win prizes. In addition, there are fully immersive attractions like Dark Escape 4D and Dream Raiders that transport players to a completely different world.

Before we ate, we toured around the gaming area to scope it all out and have a plan of attack for which games we wanted to try out. The huge connect 4 was very cool, but we didn’t get a chance to play it. Hopefully, next time.

Dave and Buster’s will give guests free play on five of the newest games when they purchase or re-charge a PowerCard, from now through August 25th. “We’ve rolled out 20 new games in the last year, and the games just keep getting bigger and better,” said Kevin Bachus, senior vice president of Entertainment & Games Strategy, “These new games represent the best of the best, and we’re thrilled to bring them to our guests – in some cases, exclusively at Dave & Buster’s.”

It’s been such a long time since we had a date night, that we had to stop and get a selfie…or is it a couplie?

In addition to the new games, part of their summer promotion includes a new menu and drink items include. Of course, we made sure to partake in a couple of these. Mr. Serious tried the  Coronarita™ and found it to be pretty tasty. He’s more a beer man, so he was quite impressed with the draft selections as well. Some of the other new ones include the Miami Ice, Strawberry Sangria (with frozen fruit cubes) and the Strawberry Summerita. The snow cone drink was a HUGE hit with my friend and I have to admit, I was quite jealous of their drinking, but I did enjoy my virgin strawberry daiquiri and was thankful they had an option for me that didn’t have alcohol in it.  We started with some appetizers too. The queso was so good. And anybody that knows me knows how hard it is to find zesty, orange queso in the ATL. I’d go back just for that! The friends had the spinach artichoke and they enjoyed it, too.

On the dinner menu, they added Bacon-Wrapped Beef Medallions & Grilled Shrimp (bottom left). I really enjoyed it, and had to take most of it home because I filled up on queso. My friend had the teriyaki chicken, her hubby had salmon, and Mr. Serious had a plate with steak, shrimp and chicken. They all finished theirs:) And, when they saw the chocolate fondue, that’s what was decided for dessert.

Then, it was back to the games. We had a great time playing a little couple-on-couple shuffleboard (despite my friend thinking it was for 60+ year olds), then moved over to the actual gaming area. And, I had scoped out the ski-ball and was excited to find they had a “more intense” version. Until I heard it was called the “ring of fire” which had my friend and I laughing out loud. But, it was fun. And, the Pac-Man Battle where you could play and eat each other? It was fabulous. I think we all felt a little like kids again. The boys did some basketball and some shooting and driving games, too (I don’t do games that move!)

The smile? Not staged. I think the little lion just jumped out of his ring of fire and we were all laughing.

Another one of the new games is the fruit ninja game. We weren’t certain, but I think we were partners working together. It turned into a little competitive craziness that we all enjoyed. My friend got a video of us and it’s hilarious!

Check out where the nearest Dave and Buster’s is to you and head in. The Summer of Game goes through August 25th and is both adult and kid friendly. And, if you play games for a while and aren’t all that good, you’ll get to leave with a souvenir box of Nerds!

Thank you to Dave and Buster’s for hosting us for a great date night evening. No other compensation was received. All thoughts are my own.

I took Amelia there for lunch and fun the other week. She had to endure two boring hours at my office, and it was my “Mommy daughter time” reward. She loved it! She says we have to go back soon and bring Daddy, because he was sad to be left out.
