That one time with the milkshake

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. I MAY EARN FROM QUALIFYING PURCHASES.

A few weeks ago, our niece (aka the milkshake) came to visit for the weekend. Solo. At 6 months old, she had her first sleepover at our house.

Just like any other time something big is happening, the older kids were on a need-to-know basis and didn’t know she was coming to visit until Mr. Serious walked into the house with her. (He wins uncle of the year, for sure. He went to the Atlanta airport where my sister and brother-in-law had a 40 minute layover, got a gate pass and went and picked her up!)

It was something we agreed to over a year ago. Before the milkshake was born and before B was a thought. We knew it would be crazy, but we made it work. Yeah, these cousins definitely don’t look the same right now!

{It’s funny, we joke that our girls with their red hair and super light skin will never look like any of their cousins. I think this proves it! Also, B looks huge here, but she’s a couple pounds smaller than her milkshake cousin!}

I think it’s safe to say that she had way more kid attention than she’s ever had before…and a lot more volume, too. Pretty much every time I had to say something to one of the girls, she jumped. What can I say, it’s loud here!

I think we did pretty good with her. We kept her on a {modified} schedule and she slept really well (I know my sister doesn’t believe me, but she really did!).

Sometimes, it was a little hard to keep that schedule. It meant nursing B, then quickly heating up a bottle and feeding the milkshake. There were moments where I realized I was getting a small glimpse of what it might be like to have twins (and yes, I was in my pajamas at mid-day!)

While I was giving her a bottle, I looked down and saw her holding B’s foot. So stinking cute!

We didn’t leave the house in the car because we realized we can’t fit 5 carseats and boosters in either of our vans at the same time, but we did go for a walk with everybody

{Sidenote: the milkshake is wearing my little pink jacket from when I was a baby. It’s been worn by me and all of my girls except B!}

Before her last bottle and nap and my sister coming to stay with us, she got some more time with E. E was surprisingly good with her and kept asking where she was!

This was the last picture I sent my sister before she got to see her milkshake again. While she was here, she used some of my pumped breastmilk. I joked with my sister that it had something extra special in it to make her sleep! See…she totally passed out while having her bottle.

It was a crazy 48 hours, but very fun for all of us. I’m glad the girls got to all spend time together with their cousins. I’m trying to figure out how I can get my 4…or maybe even 3 to Houston for a couple days to stay with their cousin and aunt and uncle. Somehow, I think it’s not quite a fair trade!
