The baptism | PSF
E’s baptism had been planned and on the books for months. It’s so hard to pick a date, make sure it’s available and then make sure family is available to attend. But we found one and got July 8th down! Everybody made their flight, hotel and rental car reservations and we were all set.
Tuesday I emailed the pastor a quick question about her baptism. The response? “We’ll be happy to do it, but we didn’t know about it!”Â
AHHHHHHHHHH….
What if I hadn’t sent that email? We would have all shown up (including the 4 family members that flew in) and they would have been starring at us like we are crazy.
Wednesday I went and ordered the cake from a local store. I’ve ordered from them before and the cakes are always good. For N’s baptism, I ordered this one three years ago (that’s cream cheese icing, by the way):
It was exactly what I ordered. It came straight from their little catalog, we just changed the wording on it. So, I liked it, it was simple and wanted the same one. They still had it in their book and wrote everything down.
So, when Mr. Serious went to get the cake and brought it home and it looked like this:
Um, yeah. I might have had a fit. We got the bad cake decorator? Those squiggles don’t look nearly the same. And, who uses buttercream icing (gross) on a cream cheese frosted cake? You can’t put white on that and it tastes terrible (I know, some people love buttercream, but gag for me!). And, the pink was like hot pink! I know this isn’t cake wreck worthy, but do those cakes look anything alike? Short of having the wording on there? Where are the dots? Where’s the frame around the words? Where are the little ribbons and bows?
Yeah, I emailed after the fact, and I am going to get our money back.
Now that we got all of that out of the way, we finally headed to church with our girl of the honor!
She did awesome. A friend wrote on my wall “She was perfect, as were your other girls! The preacher even did an extra plug for her at the end saying even HE learned something from her today (trusting and innocence). That was amazing!”
So, yeah, the preacher has us back in his good graces! (In his defense, he just got to our church less than a month ago…gotta love the Methodists, and I didn’t schedule the baptism with him, I did with the previous pastor!)
And, we tried for a family picture, but I guess everybody was done!
And, just one year ago (well, one week earlier)…we were standing on a church altar as a family (growing little E that very day)….if you look closely, you’ll see that #1 is wearing her same dress. And, #2, well, she’s three! (I think Mr. Serious is wearing the same suit and tie, too!)

So so glad you emailed with a question! Boo on the cake!! But what a fun day it turned out to be!
I felt that it was destined for failure…thank goodness I’m not the One in charge!
Oh my goodness! I had a similar problem with our local cake place as well. Glad the day worked out beautifully!
Really, not cool. And, when I went in to the store, they argued with me!
Congrats on her baptism :). Your girls are adorable!
Oh, I would’ve loved to hit the decorator in the face with that cake. What a terrible job he did! With the cake out of the way, it’s good you had a wonderful day 🙂
Thank you!
It was a blessing that I wasn’t the one to pick up the cake.
And, when I went back and the lady argued with me….I wish I had a cake!
look how sweet she is just sitting there and listening! so cute!!
This was actually before anything started! But, let’s pretend she was listening!
What a special memory for E! And I would totally take the cake back as well. How did it come out looking so different? Big difference!
The family photo looks wonderful too!
I really don’t know. Lazy? In a hurry?
Not our best family picture, but I’ll take it since they are so rare to occur.
Congratulations E! I understand about the cake though! Abbie’s first birhtday cake was TOTALLY wrong! Wrong icing, wrong decorations, wrong flavor cake – and I did cry! I didn’t even take a picture of it because I never wanted to see it again. I had no choice but to take it since we were expecting guests in just a few hours and the “new” one wouldn’t be ready for 3 hours. The family looks beautiful!!!
I only took the pictures so I could show them to the bakery. They picked it up at 9 and we had to be at church at 11…so, we were stuck with it, too.
Thanks!
The girls were all very good for the baptism. I really enjoyed my visit.
You all look great!!! Sucks that they got your cake wrong but glad you are getting your money back.
Thank you! It was nice to be all dressed up!
And, so glad to get it back, even if they did argue with me at the store:(
So sorry about the cake snafu, I’m glad you’re gonna get your money back, you certainly deserve it.
The family looks wonderful in the photo and I adore the photo of E.
Thanks so much..she’s pretty sweet!
I finally got the money back…thank goodness.
NOT the same cake! But I’m sure you all had a great time – Congrats to your family! 🙂
Yes, we did have a great time. Fortunately, it did taste good!
Aww congrats on her baptism! I undertand what you meant trying to get the date right…we ended up having our son’s when he was 11 months lol! And about the cake, gah! I would have cried!
I didn’t cry, but I was close..and the date was tough. My step dad couldn’t come, but his schedule was up in the air, so we just had to pick a date.
Aww. That is such a special day. Doesn’t matter how messed up the cake is, it is still such an awesome day. And that picture of E is just GORGEOUS! Love it. 🙂
Congratulations!
Yes, the cake is nothing in comparison..I know, I know!
Thank you.
Congratulations!
