The day my oldest gave me butterflies.

I don’t tell my kids we are off to do something fun until the.last.minute.

So, Saturday, after nap time, I told #1 that we were headed to the circus.

Just the two of us for a date.

She was so excited she let me take a picture with her (well, actually, three, but that was the best one).

We got a snack and got in the van for our solo trip downtown.

Our plan was to get there for the preshow.  However, a hair show and cheerleader conference derailed that.

We were parked.  In the street. In traffic.

I decided we would park in a garage and hoof it to the Arena.  The navigation system said 1/2 mile.

Stupid, stupid me.  I wore heels.  (Stop laughing now. I never wear heels.  Last time we went to the Arena, we parked across the street.  Clearly, I wasn’t thinking).

So, we walked.  "Mommy, slow down."  "Mommy, you are walking too fast."  "Mommy, stop holding my hand."

We made it almost to the Arena.  We had to cross the street.  Right in the middle of a Libyan protest.  Thankfully, it was a peaceful (yet loud) protest.  "Mommy, why are they yelling ‘no dictatorship?’  What does that mean?"  "Later, baby.  We’ll talk about that later."

We.finally.made.it.

We waited for a friend with tickets (a bunch of her school friends with their moms all met together).  #1 hugged her BFF and was sooo happy her friend J was there.  And, then more friends kept showing up.  You could hear her smiling.

We went in and found our seats.

The circus

They were up really, really high.

The circus

But, it meant we could see the entire show at the same time.

The circus

She tapped me on my shoulder.  I leaned over to listen to what she wanted to tell me…

The circus

…but she didn’t tell me anything.  She grabbed the side of my face, and ever so gently kissed me on the cheek.

And, I got butterflies (and melted a little, too)

What’s that honey, you want a $10 lemonade?  Whatever you want!

I’m linking up here.  Go and visit their Wordful and Wordless Wednesdays.
