The funny things we think…scratch that…thought.

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. I MAY EARN FROM QUALIFYING PURCHASES.

The other night, I asked on twitter and facebook:

“What is something silly you thought as a kid that you now know is wrong.  I’ll go first.  I thought there were little men inside the traffic lights changing the lights when appropriate.”

(Why this picture?  Well, she’s cute of course…and there are likely a whole bunch of silly things she thinks!  And, so my grandma can see the adorable Easter hat!)

She's cute and she knows it.

The responses?  No less than awesome.

Lisa: “I thought all cats were girls and dogs were boys.”

Jessica: “I thought drinking and driving included chocolate milk.”

Elaine: “I thought if cows gave milk, horses gave orange juice….”

@L8enough: I thought the television stopped when I turned it off. Like the people rested between sets.

@nsponseller: I thought the road sign “End Road Work” was a protest sign! Seriously. LOL. 🙂

@mamahall: the big lights along the highway? I thought those were mini-airports or plane gas stations.

@AmandaNethero: I thought Fred and Barney were really in all of the rock quarries

@Laura_willard: Okay, so I thought women got pregnant when men peed on them. Hey! Maybe that’s why I always knew I wanted to adopt…

Meg: “That if you owned a pickup truck, you HAD to get a big scary dog to ride in the back. I was terrified every time my parents went new car shopping that they’d come home with a truck and a scary dog. ”

Debbie: “I used to think those same little people were inside me “fixing” me when I wasn’t feeling good because how did the Tylenol know what to fix first?!”

Angela: “When I was really young (say about 5 or 6) I thought that I was the only person that thought!”

Curtis wrote: “I also thought witches lived under the bathtub drain.”

I’m adding a new one now.  I thought when the people on the news said a tornado sounded like a train that I would hear “choo choo” like the whistle.  Not the rumble the train makes on the tracks.

What are some of the silly things you thought when you were little (or even big)?  Don’t make us feel like the odd ones out.  Add yours to the list!

I used to think that when songs were on the radio, the singer was at the radio station singing it!! It totally perplexed me, but it didn’t occur to me that there were recordings of the songs! ha! 😛

    1. That’s a good one, Patrice. I bet I thought that, too, I just don’t remember (old age will do that to you!).

  3. Two things:
I thought white & black cows were the white milk creators, and brown cows made chocolate milk. [Strawberry milk threw me for a loop and my poor mother had to listen to that one for awhile]
And also when I was little I was convinced my Dad had the power to blow a light green. This was back in the day I used to be able to sit on his lap when we drove to the grocery store and I helped “steer”.

    1. Strawberry milk comes from….umm, yeah, that would be a hard one.

And, oh the things we used to be able to do in the car.

  4. I too used to think that the people on the TV were really in there. They were just really, really small.

    1. Those could be some really, really tiny people.

But, what did you think about different sized TVs? They had different people in them?

  5. When I was 6 and asked Jesus to come live in my heart, I piictured him riding down to earth in a red Jeep pickup truck and that he shrank real small and sat down on a recliner in my heart.

    1. Well, I’d say that’s pretty accurate…except the red Jeep part:)

  6. Mr Serious says:

I also thought that dogs were boys and cats were girls

    1. Super Dad Says says:

I think every kid thought that, at least for a little while

  7. Super Dad Says says:

    You need just one?

I’m going to have to think on that one and get back to you.

Dude’s have a lot of crazy thoughts, especially as children.

      1. Super Dad Says says:

my son seems to think the dvd player is only worth a pee, I think hes right they are obsolete

        1. Obsolete? Oh, no that’s not good..that’s what we use!

  8. those are all sorts of funny!!

and the easter hat? all sorts of awesome! go grandma 🙂

  9. This was a fun post to read! I was laughing with every single one you posted!

I used to think that the money I put in the offering plate at church really went all the way to heaven and then God would hand out money to people that needed it.

    1. Well, that’s sort of how it works, right? Just a little more figuratively of course:)

    1. So, that’s what you used to think? Or you still think?

  10. I got my first glasses at the age of 8. On the drive home I realized that the leaves on the trees were actually visible and clear to me now. Because I was so severely nearsighted I actually thought that God made the leaves on trees “impressionistic” from far away and then that they morphed to crisp clear leaves when you got closer. That’s just how it seemed to me.

My mother was a 4th grade teacher and had been beating herself up about not catching my vision issue. I was an excellent reader among other things and so she never suspected anything was wrong. She pulled over the car on the side of the road and cried as soon as I explained my leaf theory.

    1. I thought that roofs (or is it rooves) were all made of one single solid piece…I had no idea that there were individual shingles on them for the exact same reason. It’s amazing what a difference being able to see makes.
