The Joy Blueprint 2015

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. I MAY EARN FROM QUALIFYING PURCHASES.

I don’t make resolutions (quick…checking the archives to make sure I haven’t changed in 10 years…nope haven’t). There is nothing special about January 1st for me. It just happens to be the day after December 31st.

But I did something this year that I haven’t done before. I actually wrote down goals. Okay, typed them out. And discussed them and found meaning in them for my life. Things that will help me be joyful in moments where I might struggle (you didn’t get puked on today, lucky you!)

Say “no” more often.

To the kids? No. Well, maybe, but likely not. It’s about saying “no” to the things that don’t matter. To the things that will pull me away from them and the family. To the things that make me a not better mom/wife/person. Hold me to this people. I say “no” a lot, but I need to improve! There is always room for improvement. Because these little faces (and the one behind the camera making them smile matter a lot!)

Saying yes more to them

Say “yes” more often.

Shretchh…errrrkk. What? Say “yes” more after saying “no” more? I assure you, I’m not confused, so stick with me.

“Mommy, will you play this game with me?”

“Mommy, can we have spaghetti for dinner?”

“Mommy, can we have a family movie night this weekend?”

“Can we go look at the Christmas lights after dinner even though it’s bedtime?”

These are all things I need to say “yes” to more often. Every time I’m asked, no. But I need to say less “not right now” or “in a minute.” I’m trying.

I already beat N at Pop-o-matic Trouble!

Write out funny kid stories again.

I used to write out the funny things the kids said. I used to make a funny story to go with them. I want to do that again. Maybe just once a month. But it makes me happy to write them out and to read them. I mean how can I not find joy in my baby covered in shave cream, or with her hair slathered in Vaseline?

Once again, this year, I’m teaming up with my some of my favorite mamas for the Happy Mama Moment to share our moments. This month, Dude Mom Amanda is hosting and would love to see your resolutions or your non-resolutions and how you will find joy this year.

Happy Mamas

What are you resolving to do in 2015?

  1. Oh, the vaseline. I don’t htink that story will ever go away!

  2. I am with you- January 1st isn’t a magical day… we can set new goals and intentions any time. I am still easing into this New Year- but I agree- I need to use “No” more often in my life- to commitments and to things that don’t add value to my own life. And “Yes” more often to the little things that bring joy to my family.

These are some great ideas. I forgot about the shave cream art. Will never forget the Vaseline.

  4. I love these ideas! And I used to write about the funny things my little kids said too, it is really fun to go back and read them… 🙂 Happy New Year!

    1. Maybe I should just open a “note” on my phone because it’s more likely I’ll get it down there!

  5. I totally get the companion say no/yes more often. Totally. I tell my kids “in a minute” or “not right now” or “maybe later” a LOT. I need to do better with that.

    1. It’s sooo hard not to, but I’m doing better. We played trouble again today. This time I won!

  6. I’ve come back to this post about 5 times today, but didn’t get to comment. Mom duties! I really love this. Saying yes more often to our kids is something that most moms struggle with, and I can’t wait to see you do it with your precious girls.

    1. I feel like just writing it down has made me better about it!

  7. Saying YES more often is on my list for 2015. But I hadn’t thought about saying NO more – I think I need to add that to my list so saying YES (to my kids) can be more attainable.

    1. I almost think the “no” is more important than the “yes!”

      Well, maybe…now I really don’t know!

  8. I also need to say NO more… that is a big one for me to work on this year…

  9. Yes! Exactly. I need to say no and yes more often too. For exactly the same reasons.
    Great post!
