The new sea lion exhibit and dolphin show at the Georgia Aquarium
Last week, I got a sneak peek at some of the new happenings at the Georgia Aquarium in honor of their 10th anniversary.
It’s hard to imagine the first time we went there we had a teeny tiny little baby that is now 9! And, it was the location for our very first Mommy and Me Monday!
On March 31, 2016, the Georgia Aquarium will debut a new California sea lion experience in the new Suntrust Pier 225 gallery.
Before the show starts, you can see through a window and watch the sea lions play.
Then, you are ushered into an audience with bench seats to enjoy the show. I’d recommend sitting front and center if you can, if not, there are TVs for any obstructed views.
The sea lions and their trainers put on a great show that is also educational. The sea lions are all rescued animals that have been rehabilitated but aren’t able to be released back into the wild (the goal). Apparently, the natural food source in California isn’t as plentiful and sea lions are becoming malnourished. So, the Georgia Aquarium is helping take care of them and give them a good home. And the plus is that we get to be pretty up close and personal with them on the opposite coast and learn about them.
High 5, sea lion and a wave to you, too.
I’m most excited about the new dolphin presentation. The previous dolphin show left a lot to be desired, but this one is exactly what we were expecting and wanting when we saw the last show.
This show is educational, fun, has a lot of moving parts and you get to see the dolphins move around a lot. Also, don’t sit in the first 10 rows unless you want to get soaked.
I’m not sure if this is the case, but it looked like the dolphins were smiling the entire time, too.
Apparently, dolphins like the rain.
The lady seen here decided to sit in the “wet zone”. She was soaked by the end of the show. They got to have a heart-to-heart after the drenching.
There are several new touch pools located throughout the galleries. Those are always a hit with my kids. I’m more a fan of the looking!
We ran out of time and didn’t get a chance to check out the completely renovated 4D theater, so we will have to go check it out another time.
These new exhibits are all open now, just in time for Spring Break and this summer, so make sure you book your tickets early and get a chance to check it out.
*Thank you to the Georgia Aquarium for hosting me. All thoughts are my own.
Can’t wait to see it all. in person. Headed there today!
Glad to hear the new dolphin show is better. The last one was really lackluster, for sure. I look forward to seeing the sea lions!
we will have to go again on our next visit to ATL. I haven’t been since the first 2 girls were small either.
I remember going when Iz was just a teeny tiny baby and you nursed her in the parking garage. I want to see the new exhibits. Logan would love the shows!
It looks fantastic, the kids are definitely having fun.
