The surprise dessert “move”

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. I MAY EARN FROM QUALIFYING PURCHASES.

This was an email Mr. Serious sent to me the morning after this event. Too good not to share. Girls, you’ll love this one day. Plus, he deserves a little “face time” for putting up with us girls lately. Okay, maybe me…and a couple really late nights working…and a lot of meetings and deadlines for him. Okay, he’s just awesome.

I was home from work early with the family, so the dinner question(s) is/are raised. Cooking? Cooking what? Who’s cooking? (That’s funny…there was never a “who” question!)

Followed by, “Don’t we have a gift card somewhere?” So, after some more discussion, we’re off to the place where we received a gift card for Christmas, where we’ll use our $25 gift card and then some….

The big surprise of the night was that the kids were awesomely behaved! (I told him to raise his expectations. We have pretty awesomely behaved kids.) Maybe it was being out that made them focus a little more, try a little harder.

the awesomesauce

At the end of the meal a group of older women, who were sitting across from us, stopped to tell us how beautiful and well-behaved our children were. Even E was eating fairly quietly, and toned down her Frankenstein grunts for more food. (Yeah, she’s a grunter…she also signs “more” and “eat” for the entire meal!)

As nice as that was, the highlight of the meal was all of us sharing the dessert. A s’more brownie a la mode. There was no fighting, arguing about the size of the other sister’s bites, or complaining when it was gone. It was poetic. So much so, that I just put my spoon down to watch.

There is a deep down satisfaction that comes from being a father and providing the food for the family. Especially when it’s covered with marshmallows and chocolate sauce.

the awesome hubby

I didn’t expect to be moved by a restaurant’s dessert, but I was…..

I feel all Pioneer Woman-y putting a picture of the hubby’s backside on the old blog. But, hey it looks pretty darn good. And he’s got all three girls on the swings and happy. And, also, I’m proud of him for losing weight and getting healthy. And having lower cholesterol and a low BMI. And, yeah, he’s hot.

  2. I have to say that I have always found that my kids seem to know just when it is time to raise their game, does making going out easier, for sure

    1. Thank goodness…if only I could convince them to raise their game at home, too!

  3. Oh, I cherish those nights when my hubby swoops in and takes us all out. I am 7 mths pregnant and dinner has become quite a chore. Even better when everyone is well behaved and you can actually enjoy the evening. Congrats mama!

    1. So much better when it can be enjoyed instead of a chaotic time out!

  4. Did someone say chocolate? LOL

One of my pet peeves is going out to eat and having a family with kids sit next to us, and their kids are out of control. I was raised that you behave wherever you are or ya get smacked. So many kids walk all over their parents when in public. Nice to hear your kids are well behaved.. in case we ever have a table next to you 😉 LOL

    1. Oh yes. And it was tasty!

Should our kids get loud, we are the first to leave, but it hasn’t happened since they were tiny babies and didn’t know any better.

  5. Your girls are beautiful. So nice when they behave well too. lol Congrats to your hubby on his weight loss and getting healthy! He seems like a great dad.

    1. Thank you! If I have to pick, I would rather them behave well out then at home!

And, he’s a pretty awesome dad and husband.

  6. Glad y’all had a nice dinner. It’s so nice to feel like you can actually go out in public again. We tend to stick to noisy restaurants still…so no one notices our kids over the noise!

    1. It wasn’t too quiet or nice of a place..it was just super early. That’s a good trick, too. So most people out are those with families!

  7. Aww. I love that. I live for moments like those. 🙂

    1. It really helps seal the deal that we are doing alright!

    1. Such a nice break…and when you don’t have to clean, too!

  8. Loved the story.

Here’s my question – do you ever get a little annoyed at how well behaved the kids are when you are out… people complimenting you, your friends telling you how easy you have it – then, when you get home, the kids turn back into wild animals….. or is that just my family? Hmmm.

    1. Oh, absolutely. And, that they would behave so well at school and then I would get the worst of it. But, if I have to pick, I’d much rather them behave well as school and out then the reverse and nobody get to see my well behaved children!
