They quit…thank goodness

I’m so glad they quit. Like really, really, glad. Because it was a battle every visit.

They were stinky. I insisted they wash their hands and change their clothes. When the girls were babies, they didn’t want to be around it (and I didn’t either).

Grandpa

And, now that they’ve quit, they can’t stand the smell, either. Or even be around it. Thank goodness.

If you haven’t guessed what they quit doing, it’s smoking. Lung pollution. Cancer causing nastiness. Chemicals aplenty. All of that.

{Having never ever smoked anything, I don’t get it. I don’t get the addiction.}

Once I was on my own, and especially had my girls, I really emphasized to them how much I wanted them to quit. Selfishly for me and our girls, but mostly for them. I even got to the point of telling them that I wouldn’t take care of them when they got old. Seriously, I did. I told them they were totally on their own for their long term care. It probably makes me a jerk, not probably, but it does, but I wanted them to understand just how much I wanted them to quit.

Grandma

Then, one day, I got a call that they were quitting. Cold turkey. And, it was hard and tough! But now, they are so proud and so am I. They quit, and they haven’t looked back. We are all so very thankful!

I guess now this means I have to take care of them when they get old!

(I should mention that we are very proud that Gramps has also recently quit smoking and we are so very happy and proud of him, too. I just never told him I wouldn’t take care of him:)

  1. I am so proud of them, too! I told mom the same thing…I went so far as to tell her I didn’t want to change her diapers while hooked up to an oxygen tank. I never thought to mention possible milk shakes wouldn’t like it—good though.

It was definately one of the best choices I have ever made and yes smoke does bother me now. TOTAL YUCK!!!!! Good to know you will now TAKE CARE of us when we get old. Although I intend to keep myself healthy and will not need taking care of.

  4. That’s awesome. I’m trying to get my mom to quit before my little one comes. I’ve told her that she won’t be allowed around her if she stinks. I know it’s mean, but the habit is disgusting.

    1. Yes, definitely…or tell her she’ll have to wash before!

That is so exciting!! Them smoking is not only horrible for them but a bad example to your girls!!

    1. I didn’t even think about the example part….another point I’ll have to remind them of!

  6. My parents both quit when my first was born. I told them they were welcome to come visit (no smoking, of course) but I could not bring my baby into their home where thy had smoked for 20+ years. That the incentive they needed… Thankfully.

    1. Thankfully, they never smoked in the house, but their vehicles smelled terrible..as did their clothes.

So glad your parents quit, too!
