To cut or not to cut

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. I MAY EARN FROM QUALIFYING PURCHASES.

Since blogging is all about being narcissistic, and I know you all are waiting on pins and needles to find out boy or girl, I’ll leave you with this.

This is the length my hair gets (as it is now) when it drives me crazy.  I just feel like it’s too long.

But…but…I can pull it ALL up if I need/want to (which is pretty often). Amazingly, if it’s shorter than this, it won’t all go up (yes, I have a big head…literally of course).

And, I waiver back and forth.  It hasn’t been cut since May, so it’s time for a cut.

But, I hate getting my hair trimmed.  I always feel like I need to do something different when I pay for a cut.  I also remember that while it may look like my hair is straight.  It’s not.  Flat iron is seriously required. Otherwise, it’s super curly, wispy and crazy.  So, high maintenance.

Of course, the other part of me says no, leave it long. It’s almost fall and it won’t be so unbearable.

So, what do I do?  Cut it all off (like chin length), or just leave it and fork over the money for a trim?

(Come back later Wednesday.  Here’s hoping Baby Serious cooperates and we know boy or girl!)

  1. Keep it longer. Way better to be able to pull it back into a pony tail… but still be able to keep it down when your feeling all sassy.

  2. don’t cut it. PERIOD. I cut mine when I was about 6 months along with Maggie and have no idea why. Ponytails are all the rage!

    1. I’m feeling the rage then. The only problem is my head is so sensitive that it’s starting to hurt from the ponytails.

  3. one – you look adorable and I couldn’t comment this morning
two- don’t cut it, want a month or two more, and if you still want to cut it… do it.
three – can.not.wait. to hear the gender!!!

    1. Awww.. shucks! Thanks!

And, this coming from somebody with short hair (although, I bet you have that low-maintenance straight hair that requires no work.

  4. I have the same exact issue. My hair is so thick that when it gets beyond the length that it is now, it’s a pain to dry when I get out of the shower. So for now I’ve settled for that medium length – long enough (barely) to pull back, but short enough to not drive me nuts!

    Can’t wait until tomorrow!!

    1. Mine is I have a lot of hair, but the hairs aren’t thick. But, if I break a sweat when I blow dry my hair, it certainly isn’t happening very often!

  5. I say keep it long!! My hair dresser always says to NEVER cut your hair short during pregnancy because it is driving you crazy! She says you will regret it once you get home!! I think it looks beautiful!! Trim it up and be thankful for all of it in a ponytail!!!!

    1. Thanks! I guess that’s what I’m going to do, but this is the LONGEST my hair has been in like forever.

  6. Don’t cut it when you’re pregnant. You gotta wait. Just give it a little trim right now.

  7. I’m not going to tell you what I think you should do, just what I did: I cut my hair while I was pregnant to a length where I could still pull it up. Then about 2 months after I gave birth my hair started to fall out a lot (it still is and she’s 6 months old almost) and I got it cut even shorter. It doesn’t all go up neatly but a few strands here and there hanging loose do have their charm…

    1. Oh, that same thing happens to me. I’ve got charming frizzy hair! Especially around my face. I call it my lion’s mane!

  8. Just don’t let them cut it too short that you end up looking like a poodle the days you don’t have the time or a free hand to fix it…not that I’m currently experiencing that or anything…

  9. Stephanie Phelps says:

I love your hair just the way it is and besides you can do so many different styles with longer hair than with short. 🙂 Just my opinion. 🙂

    1. Thanks, Stephanie! The consensus is definitely leave it!

  10. mrs. hils says:

If it’s a boy, cut it. If it’s a girl, don’t. Why not let the baby decide? It’s good for them to become decision makers at a young age! 🙂

    1. You know, a true friend will totally get that I was trying to make a play on that, too:)

So, guess I’m not cutting it!

  11. grandma Pat says:

don’t cut yet – once it is the length you have it a lower pony tail looks really nice – classy and easy to do

  12. I go back and forth from short to long hair. I have really enjoyed being able to pull my hair back in a pony tail — especially when I have not felt so hot or didn’t have the extra time to style my hair. When my hair is short it requires so much more time to style in the mornings. I’d say just go for a trim now and keep it long.

    1. That’s how I am. I don’t have that beautiful, gently tossed hair look right out of the shower. More like I don’t own a brush, so long it is!

  13. Let it grow. You can do more fun styles when it’s longer, and put it in a ponytail without 15 clips.

  14. Oh I’m seriously on the fence. Given the season I am tempted to say keep it long – plus pony tails are a godsend for busy moms… But… you know I love a short hair cut. Tempting…

  15. I love long hair, so I say keep it because there is so much more that you can do with longer hair. But if it’s driving you crazy, maybe have a little bit cut off.

    1. But, then I get to that icky “in the middle” have to do something with it stage!

    1. Nothing like a good practical answer! Keeping my ears warm and all:)

  16. Personally, I think it look great both ways. I understand your dilemma. Alex really wanted my hair to get long so I resisted cutting it. While there are times I really want to chop it all off, I will say that (and sorry if this seems gross to you but it’s totally how I like to roll) I find I don’t have to wash it nearly as often. It just looks good for longer and on the days it doesn’t, that ponytail is a lifesaver.
I hope you let us know what you decide!

    1. Not grossed out..I’m totally with you. The longer it is, the less washing required…and I love it!

  17. i literally had this chat with myself in the mirror yesterday. i am still on the fence. therefore i have no good suggestion!
