People are reading food labels more and more and getting a better grasp on what they are putting in their bodies. This goes the same for the foods we feed our babies, too, if not more so than our own bodies. Or maybe I’m just guilty of that!

When I read the name of a product I expect the ingredients in that order, but often, I find that when I read the actual label, the wholesome and nutritious ingredients are at the bottom of the list (meaning the lowest percent ingredients). In fact, there has been a recent news story about a big brand recently. However, this is not the case with Beech-Nut baby food (who has also teamed up with the non-GMO project!)

They are the first baby food company in the U.S. to revel exact percentage of ingredients in its jars and pouches (and accurately name their foods as well!) This is just pear and black cherry and you’ll find on the website that it is 75% pears and 25% black cherries! And, 100% delicious. Obviously!

They understand the importance for parents to know exactly what was in their babies’ food, so they made it easy to find out. They have included percentage breakdowns of ingredients in our jars and pouches that is easily accessible on Beechnut.com. They don’t want parents to worry about the foods they’re feeding their babies, which is why they are divulging their recipes! They want full transparency because it’s what we want, expect and demand for our foods!

When you go to the website, you will see a label just like this for any of their jars or pouches. Full disclosure of ingredients and nutrition information. Full honesty in labeling.

You can read some of what led to this transparency in labeling on the CSPI website.

Head over to the Beech-Nut site and check out all of their jars and pouches. Do any of the ingredients surprise you?

I wish that these had been around when my children were younger. As I get older I realize the importance of buying and consuming organics. Now that we have a new little one on the way, I know that we will personally use these. Using things that are not full of all the extra “stuff’ is important esp with babies.

    1. Yes! I love that these have no extra “stuff” in them! Also, they taste like what is in them! Not like salt or ambiguous mush!

  2. Oh, look at her using the spoon. *swooon* How is she getting so BIG!? Since they introduced this new line last year, I’m a big fan – mostly because I think it tastes good on top of all the awesome disclosure and transparency!

    1. Right? I can’t bring myself to give one to her unless she really wants it because she looks SO grown up!

And yes, I love that it tastes exactly like what is in it!

  3. That is wonderful! I love transparency in brands. Lately I’ve been so particular about what I buy. Oddly mostly when it comes to beauty products. I’ve been very careful about avoiding SLS, parabens, mineral oil, silicones, etc. It’s surprising how much these things are everywhere. It’s been better for my wallet though, being picky has really curbed my impulse buys.

    1. I can see being picky being a huge help with impulse buys. So many beauty brands have so much junk in them.

  4. Love Beech-Nut and so glad I had a chance to meet them at Type-A last fall. I make most of E’s food, but the bit of baby food I have bought, has only been Beech-Nut because I know exactly what is in them.

    1. I’m so glad I met them, too! We did homemade, too, but it’s nice to grab something that tastes like it should and we know what’s in it!
