Spring Break. Definitely has a different ring to it now.

10 years ago? We were in college, of to Atlanta to find a place to live before getting married (yes, we lived in sin, but we were engaged).

And the last couple years, I had been teaching, so the break was welcomed from work and the girls did some school time and some home time.

Last year, we had to pay for school, and E was tiny, so I’m pretty sure they went to school the whole week and never were any wiser.

This year? All four of us girls are home. No school for anybody. And I admit, I’m not good at jam packing the days and the week with events and “stuff” to do, and we just sort of chill.

E loves to play with socks. Mr. Serious helped with some laundry, for for whatever reason, no socks. So he helped. She tried to put them on her feet, then, made a scarf out of one of daddy’s longer socks. Trend setting already.

Heading over to the library is a fun trip and results in happy girls getting to pick through and choose their own books.

Bookworms

(How does she sit like this? It hurts me to look!)

The library during Spring Break used to mean frantically working on a research paper or a lab assignment! Ack.

We’ve leisurely strolled the grocery store, and hit them up for free cookies. E scarfed hers and never let go of that thing. Despite walking passed the huge display, there was no wine purchased or consumed during this Spring Break (thus far anyways. We do have three days to go!)

Biggest surprise, she wants to make lunch for her sister and herself. Who am I to stop her if it’s at 10:30am?

And, finally weather warm enough to hang out in the backyard. Who cares if everything is covered in yellow (and we had the heater on earlier this past weekend) and results in the middle and me sneezing no less than eleventy-billion times? Three girls swinging? Happiness.

Lest you all only see the happy, there has been plenty of PJ lounging, TV/ movie watching, phone playing and overall taking it all in.

  1. Our spring break came and went. What did we have? SNOW?!? Tonight it hailed again, and they are calling for another inch. Grr. I love Alaska, but I miss spring.

    1. I hear Spring and Summer is gorgeous there, what you have of it, but man, the winter and fall are brutal!

    1. Especially since the hubby is super busy and couldn’t really take off.

  2. I think it is perfect! We had a lot of PJ lounging too and had a blast!

We have plenty of Magic Treehouse books if ISH would like to borrow some. When I see that she made lunch for her sister at 10:30, I am reminded once again that she is the female version of Nathan! Love them both!

    1. We have to take you up on that…

and, yes, they are very, very similar!

    1. It’s not the flexible part of it that confuses me…it’s sooooo bad for your knees. And, as somebody that has bad knees, I can’t see doing anything to harm them.

Mr. Serious can’t sit criss cross applesauce at all!

  4. grandma pat says:

glad you got to enjoy Spring Break with the girls without having to be anywhere

  5. Looks like you all are enjoying your spring break to the fullest. Unfortunately due to allergies we can’t enjoy outside as much as we want cause we don’t have our allergy arsenal.

    1. Oh, we did very brief visits outside because of the allergies…and that’s WITH allergy medicine.

  6. LOVE this! You have a beautiful life. Libraries + grocery store outings + swinging with the cutest girls ever? Sounds like a dream. (And just so you don’t think I’m weird for being jealous of your grocery shopping, you should know that I haven’t been allowed in a grocery store for a few months now. My husband and I share one car, and he picks up stuff on the way home from work. I would *love* to choose my own food for a change!) Your girls look like such good little friends. It’s adorable how the oldest insisted on making a lunch treat for her little, and how E looks like a fashionista in the making — that expression! 🙂

    1. Oh goodness..I would insist he takes me with him. But, to be honest, most of the time, we make the list together and Mr. Serious makes the trips with 1-2 of the girls giving me a little time “off!”

Most of the time, they are super duper sweet to each other and I melt!

  7. I’m all about chilling…that’s my kind of spring break!

    1. I am, too! Lugging everybody all over the city is a lot of work!

    1. Yep, that’s what we did. I just can’t make plans when everybody else is traveling and it’s busy everywhere you go!

  8. Ha your spring break is identical to ours over here. Well I’m not technically on spring break, but I’m just meeting with students this week instead of teaching. We’ve been lounging and Sesame is enjoying all the free time with daddy.

  9. Looks like you gals are making some great memories. Traveling is fun, and certainly leaves an impression on childhood memories; but sometimes the most powerful memories can be those of “everyday” living. And they’re lucky to have pieces of theirs captured

    2. Great, everyday memories..and, yeah, I put my camera or phone in their faces a lot!

  10. We did not do anything for Spring Break. Sounds like a good time for you all!

  11. I’m not good at jam-packing our days either. And we are almost always in our pajamas until at least 10 a.m. Looks like you and your girls are enjoying the week!

    1. There are many days where I do carpool in my PJs…I admit it!

    1. Yes, it’s definitely more of the same thing everyday. No trips to Mexico staying up all night anymore:)

  12. Elizabeth M. says:

what a fun time!! you’ve captured the joy of spring break!

  13. BalancingMama (Julie) says:

This is my first spring break where A isn’t at camp and we aren’t on vacation. We’ve been pretty lazy! But I am enjoying it.

  14. It is hard to fill the days… hours…. minutes! This year, we actually went on vacation – which didn’t really make it any easier. 🙂

    1. Vacation…I don’t call it a vacation with kids. It’s a trip! Unless you have adults to tag team with, I think it’s even harder.

  15. oh how i miss cookies at the grocery store…they don’t seem to do that here.

love seeing a peek at your spring break!

    1. What? No cookies at the stores there? That’s just not right. Not right at all!

  16. Sounds like y’all did spring break right! Well, except for the no wine part… 😉

    1. I don’t really know why. I think I had a lime-a-rita or two towards the end of the week.

  17. Oh my gosh, it made me smile to see your daughter sitting like that! I used to sit like that all the time when I was a kid. I still do it once in a while too, but apparently it is SUPER bad for your knees once you get older. I had to go to physical therapy for a back injury and one time my therapist caught me sitting like that on my yoga mat and she promptly scolded me and told me to stop it. 😉

    1. Yes, the bad for your knees part..that’s why I don’t get it..it hurts me to even try to sit like that.
