You Can’t Have-a the Mango

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. I MAY EARN FROM QUALIFYING PURCHASES.

Even though daddy gets the girls breakfast out every morning, #2 has been taking it upon herself to help herself to more breakfast.  Sometimes it’s yogurt.  Other times a peach.

This morning, she came upstairs telling me she was eating a mango.

I wondered how she got into it, but she just used her teeth and went to town.  She even ate some of the skin (yuck).  I explained that she needed to eat just the orange part.  She said she needed more orange.  I showed her how to peel the skin back and go to down.

I think it’s safe to say she loved it.

  1. LOL! That is so super cute! They sure do get determined!

    1. Determined…that’s a nice way to say it!

She’s stubborn as a mule sometimes.

    1. She’s definitely a hobbit! I joke all the time about her “second” meals.

  2. Okay, so I had to look the title up, but that’s because it was soooo familiar and I couldn’t place it. MANGO! That skit always made me laugh and feel incredibly uncomfortable at the same time. 🙂

I don’t think I’ve ever just eaten a mango like that…but judging by her face, I should try it.

    1. Oh, definitely an uncomfortable and yet hilarious skit.

It’s how people in Florida and the islands eat them. They don’t peel them, or cut them, just bite right in (of course, not actually eating the skin).

  3. You have to be really careful with mangoes. The sap in their skin has the same compound (urushiol) as poison ivy, oak, sumac, etc. You can actually get the same rash from it. I would know, I’ve had it twice. The second time was worse, with half of my face breaking out. I must have wiped it without washing my hands and nails well enough. Anyway, for the most part kids under 7ish don’t have reactions yet, so that’s good. She looks super cute though. (I now buy only already cut mangoes.)

    1. Fortunately, no reaction…but I have noticed when I eat the pieces close to the skin, my lips get a little tingly! Same thing with cilantro.

  4. How funny! My son will have nothing to do with biting into the skins, I have to peel most fruits for him to eat them. But he loves mangos!

    1. We’ve never been fruit peelers, so they will eat the skin of apples and everything!

      1. Ha-Ha! I’m not a peeler either – I just became one with certain fruits! (honestly, I did the peeling grapes thing once when he was a baby and that was it. cutting – yes, peeling – no. As you see, he survived the unpeeled grapes. 🙂

  5. my girls LOVE mango!! we go through a bag of frozen mangoes around here like every week!!! sooooo yummy!! and they make the best smoothies!

    1. Never thought to buy it frozen…except for smoothies. Yummy with pineapple.
