Creating a Back to School Wardrobe Capsule

Our 9 year old is quite the fashionista these days. I can no longer just pick out some clothes for her and hand them to her. She wants a say in what she wears and how she expresses herself. So, we headed to OshKosh B’Gosh for her to pick up a few pieces that would all work together to create the start of a back to school wardrobe capsule in her favorite kid style.

I think she picked some winners. She came up with even more outfits than these 9 with just a couple of items: a shirt, a tunic, a dress, jeans, leggings and a jacket. And as an added bonus, her 7 year old sister will get to wear these again in a year or two because they hold up so well.

With temperatures still in the 90s here, back to school means light and airy clothes. This dress is a perfect combination of those. Plus, pockets!

When it finally cools off, she can take the dress from summer breeze to winter cool by wearing it with leggings or jeans. And, when it gets much colder, she can pair it all with a super cute jeans jacket. This jacket will be around for a while! It’s great quality and it will keep her warm. (Tip: She didn’t care for the jackets in the girls section of the store, so we scouted this one out in the boys section and it’s perfect for her).

And, if the day warms up, she can just tie that jacket around her waist like she’s been doing it since the 80s.

The Be You shirt screamed her name. She couldn’t be more her and unique and wonderful and perfect. OshKosh has so many shirts that fit every kids style.

Because being “you” is what it’s really all about. And letting her have her own sense of style while not breaking the bank certainly helps, too!

The tunics and leggings are a big hit with our girls, too. They so easily mix and match within the season and even previous seasons so the leggings get a lot more wear. I really like how the tunics are a little longer in the back, too, so those win a lot of mom points here.

We also like that the colors across the line coordinate, so the 7 year old can also pick out a new dress (because she does get a lot of OshKosh hand-me-downs) and they don’t clash (well, their clothes don’t…we won’t talk about personalities).

OshKosh is definitely one of the first places we think of for back to school shopping because we all leave happy!

The one new piece we always have to have in the fall is a nice new hoody for our cool mornings and evenings here in Colorado. It is also great to layer with when the temperatures drop even lower in the winter.
