Catching up on the present

This week, I emailed a friend to plan a get-together. I haven’t seen this friend in over a year. That’s just bad friending.

Why?

My baby is 14 months old. Yes, she’s still a baby. And, she will always be my baby! Even my 8 year old is still my baby!

wavign hi

I haven’t spent a night away from home without my baby since she was born. And before that, I spent a couple nights away to Houston helping my sister with her new baby. Most of the time, my outings look something like this.

Mommy and B

I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love that my girls want and need me. But I also know that I am a better mom when I’m able to take some me time and take care of myself; mom myself.

Now that B isn’t nursing as much (still three times a day), I’m getting little spurts of time for me. Time to catch up on life. Catch up on friends and people and time to catch up on myself.

Not only do I need to catch up on the present (um, it snowed this morning and I had no idea it was in the forecast), but I have some of the past to catch up on, too.

my baby

It’s still a far cry from where it was pre-mom days but I’m definitely not complaining about that. There is still a lot of mom time left for me! (Thank goodness, because I’m not ready to cut this gig short!)

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Just like I have a lot of catching up to do, so does Kimmy from the newest show on Netflix starting today, March 6th Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. It is Tina Fey and Robert Carlock’s hilarious new comedy series starring Ellie Kemper (The Office), Jane Krakowski (30 Rock) and Tituss Burgess (30 Rock), about a girl who can’t be broken and has a lot of catching up to do. I was able watch screeners of the first couple episodes (all of which you can catch now on Netflix) and it’s a riot. Both Mr. Serious and I found ourselves laughing and smiling through the episodes. Despite their circumstances, Kimmy, Tituss and “Jaqueline” were all able to reinvent themselves in one way or another to make it in New York City. I don’t want to give more away, so make sure you check it out.

Do you have some catching up to do? Share it with me so I don’t feel so bad at being a friend!

  1. I know I have a lot of catching up to do, on sleep! Lol.

We will have to check out that show, we need something funny to watch after watching a lot of serious stuff lately.

PS I might have already said this but I love your new blog layout!! I kind of want you to do one for me now. Maybe if and when I make the switch to WordPress!

Kimmy is funny-Jeremy sat me down to watch the first two episodes last night. Finally a show I want to watch!

I have all kinds of catching up to do! Every weekend I get caught up on emails but I never find time to get caught up on shows…well, until there summer that is. As a teacher my weekdays are packed. I do not even attempt to watch shows because I know I can never keep up. Summer is the time for me to relax and get caught up on everything.

  4. Thank you for the honesty! I know we all struggle with this. It will be my 10 year anniversary and Eddy wants to go away without the kids and I just do not know. She is so so cute!

  5. My husband and I are in need of a new comedy. We haven’t tried Netflix yet as our three littles make us so tired we rarely watch tv during our current life stage! I love how con isn’t it is for when we have a little more time.

I have a hard time still leaving my 2 1/2 year old but being 7 months pregnant I knew I needed some away / down time. My husband & I took a weekend to go to our friends cabin in the mountains last month, & it was great! My daughter had so much fun with her cousins that she didn’t miss us one minute 🙂 Now when will I find the time to catch up with friends ?

  7. I’m three episodes in to the show and it’s so cute! And yes, it’s hard to get caught up, but you’re still in that stage. Just make sure you squeeze in a few minutes of YOU time each day. You have plenty of time for the rest 🙂
