Did you know your complete water park family vacation at America’s biggest waterpark is even closer than you thought? Great Wolf Lodge’s newest location in Georgia is now open. Located just about an hour outside of Atlanta in La Grange, Great Wolf Lodge Georgia is now taking reservations! The hotel and resort facilities have so many exciting things unique to the Georgia location.  Check out our visits to other Great Wolf Lodge locations.

Water Activities at Great Wolf Lodge Georgia

Great Wolf Lodge’s indoor waterpark is definitely the front and center attraction and why so many families will come.

Two New Slides

The two new slides are not only new to Great Wolf Resorts, they are one-of-a-kind slides developed for Great Wolf Lodge Georgia by noted slide manufacture ProSlide.

Slide Package ImageThe two new slides are:

Triple Thunder: This group raft ride combines two of most thrilling water park attractions available into one pulse-pounding slide.  The ride starts by plummeting guests down a steep drop and into a funnel, where they will experience sensations of weightlessness as the raft sloshes up-and-down the funnel walls.  Upon exiting the funnel, the raft swooshes towards two saucers.  The saucers provide additional excitement as guests hurl at maximum speeds along the bank of the saucer, swirl 180-degrees and exit through a narrow passageway – all in the dark.  A few extra twist and turns await after the saucers before riders finally plunge into a catch pool at the bottom of the slide.

Triple Thunder SlideRapid Racer:  This two-person tube racing slide features plenty of thrills with drops, chutes and serpentine curves.   As riders emerge from the exhilarating 180-degree and 360-degree banked curves, they enter a section with open racing lanes where they can see and hear their competition on the other side of a low separator wall.

Rapid Racer Slide

The slide features three rally points where guests can see their competition as both careen down this incredibly fun water attraction.

Their family tube rides are a big hit, too and you can see just how big they are (this picture is from the hard hat tour last year!) As you can see the park has come a long way!

This new Georgia resort will also have a lazy river making up a small portion of the nearly 100,000 square foot indoor water park. Other things that we will get to see include:

  • Fort Mackenzie: Multi-level tree house water fort that combines suspension bridges, treetop slides, swinging cargo nets and spray stations. The park’s signature tipping bucket dumps one thousand gallons of water every four minutes.
  • Totem Towers: Two three-story body slides attached to Fort Mackenzie.
  • Wolf Tail: Step into the launch pod and prepare as the floor drops out from underneath guest’s feet, hurling them into a nearly vertical, 20-foot free fall, followed immediately by a 360-degree, high-speed loop
  • Otter Run: A family friendly body slide and a sure-fire favorite, Otter Run is perfectly sized for small and tall alike!
  • Slap Tail Pond: Gigantic wave pool complete with waves reaching up to three feet in height as they roll through every five minutes.
  • Chinook Cove: Water playground for children of all ages featuring basketball and floating obstacles.
  • Big Foot Pass: Unique water obstacle challenges kids and adults alike to balance on floating logs and lily pads and hold on to hanging nets as they try to get across the pool.
  • Crooked Creek: Winding lazy river.
  • Cub Paw Pool: Zero-depth entry children’s pool with water fountain features, kiddie slides and spray-and-play adventures.
  • Whooping Hollow: This play pool is filled with perfectly sized water slides for young pups. Gentle slopes and tiny dips and turns make these the go-to attractions for the “under 52 inches” set.
  • Cabanas: Private cabanas are available for rent, which include a safe, mini-fridge, and the option of food and beverage service.
  • River Canyon Run: Twist and dip over this slide’s curves and bends with your whole pack on this family raft ride.

Land Activities At Great Wolf Lodge Georgia

Rest assured, there are more thrills to be found beyond the water. After all, there is nearly 500,000 square feet of entertainment space and lodging to enjoy. I can’t wait to see the 40,000 square foot Great Wolf Adventure Park all finished up. (You can even visit here for the day without staying at Great Wolf Lodge) which  include Howlers Peak Ropes Course.

Northwoods Springs: An oasis in the water park that’s just for adults, 21 and older Raccoon Lagoon®: An outdoor pool for families

You will also find Howl in One Miniature Golf Course, Ten Paw Alley family bowling, Northern Lights Arcade, and Rustic Ridge, a climbing rock wall.

River Canyon Run: Twist and dip over this slide’s curves and bends with your whole pack on this family raft ride.

Our girls had a great time at Scooops on a recent visit. Your kids will also not wan too miss Yoga Trails, crafts, interactive science experiments and nightly story time.

Camp H.O.W.L.

A new amenity to Great Wolf Lodge, H.O.W.L. (Habitat of the Wild Learning), will provide a parents-free, supervised kid club so parents can enjoy the adult only areas knowing their children are safe in the evenings. The club will provide fun, educational activities for families during the day.

The space will give guests the feeling of being in the Northwoods forest with a Great Wolf Kids cabin. This cabin serves as both a backdrop for a multidimensional stage and a play space that houses an assortment of interactive activities. During the day, families can visit and participate in complimentary activities like craft-making, sketching, coloring, games and more.

Camp H.O.W.L. will offer three unique program themes for the evening supervised events.  The themed programs will rotate throughout the week and include “The Great Outdoors, Indoors” where kids will learn the basic essentials of camping, “All Living Things: Exploring Animals A-Z” where children will explore all things animals, and “Bugs, Bark and Blooms, Oh My!,” which will dive into nature, insects and more.

Adults Only

Great Wolf Lodge Georgia is also going to have a number of grown-up activities at the resort.

But, in the evening, the space will offer structured, parent-free secure programming specifically designed for children ages 4-12. Northwood Springs

In fact, they are debuting at Great Wolf Lodge Georgia Northwoods Springs, an adults-only oasis adjacent to the outdoor pool offering a respite for parents. Featuring a private hot tub and relaxing lounge chairs, Northwoods Springs will be exclusive to guests 21 and over.

Barnwood

Parents and adults will be able to enjoy Barnwood, an upscale dining concept. The menu is sourced from ingredients found within a 100-mile radius of the resort ensuring freshness and an ever-changing array of dishes based on seasonality.

Relaxation

Parents can find craft cocktails in the water park or relax by the fireplace in the Grand Lobby.

Wine Down Service

Adults can choose from a curated selection of food and wine pairing options and have it delivered straight to their hotel room and have a little date night in. If parents are waiting until after the kids go to sleep, no worries, the resort will alert guests with a text message when the treats arrive as to not wake the sleeping wolf pups.

The Suites

There will be 457 guest suites made up of eight suite types with standard rooms starting at $199.99. What I love about their suites is that they fit 6 people. So our family can all stay in one suite together without having to get a bigger room.  They also have suites that sleep up to 13 with separate bedrooms and bathrooms. The camping look is carried through into the rooms with outdoor scenery and appearance. They are always paying attention to detail at Great Wolf Lodge.

Family Suite Great Wolf Lodge Georgia

There are actually 8 different room types available at Great Wolf Lodge Georgia:

  • Family Suite (sleeps up to 6)
  • Deluxe Queen Sweet (sleeps up to 5)

There will be several restaurants including Barnwood, a farm to table restaurant, Hungry as a Wolf, serving handcrafted pizzas and pastas and a new Food Hall. This Food Hall is a new concept for the brand which will offer multiple-types of prepackaged as well as ready-to-eat items to appeal to all eaters with Campfire Kitchen, and a Tex-Mex concept taco bus.

River Canyon Run: Twist and dip over this slide’s curves and bends with your whole pack on this family raft ride.

Their kitchens are all also peanut and tree nut free. And allergy concerns are always addressed with the chef coming out and talking to the individual. I’m so thankful they offer this and take things seriously. They serve most things already gluten free which means I can enjoy some chicken nuggets!

Family Suite Great Wolf Lodge Georgia

I’m hoping to head back in a few months and take in Great Wolf Lodge Georgia to see it in all of it’s glory and sure, maybe I’ll take the kids! We all have a great time at Great Wolf Lodge…and we all sleep really well, too!

How are we already at the end of the year award ceremonies? One of E, one for N and an end of year party for B. (The oldest has hers next week for 5th grade…which means in a few days, she’ll be a middle schooler. Ekk!)

E was the holder of the R in the Kindergarten song and they also sang a cute song about going to first grade. I swear this year flew by!

N’s award ceremony was next and early, so B went with us before going to her last day of her preschool class (she still has pre-K next year). N got quite a few awards for Principal’s Honor Role, reading a ton and more. We’re okay with no perfect attendance. They sang a great song about being yourself.

And we rounded out the day with a little playing of Happy Salmon where B wanted a ride on my back to be my “partner.”

silly girls

The kiddos have their last couple days, and I’ll be on a trip to St. Simons, Georgia where I’m sure to come back exhausted and having all the fun while the kiddos have fun with Grammi!

What did you do this week?

I recently had a chance to attend a private grand opening event at AR Workshop in Smyrna, Georgia. Having never been to an AR Workshop before, I wasn’t sure what to expect of their process. I did know they were a DIY workshop were you could create your own sign, canvas, pillow case and more.

DIY wall sign AR workshop

Originally, the owners asked if we wanted to make a sign with our blog logo. But, with limited wall space, I decided to ask if I could created something else. After chatting with the owners I ended up taking the wording from one of their existing signs and creating a slightly different design of my own. Thankfully, they were willing to work with my custom design to make a sign for our bedroom wall.

First Impressions

I was immediately drawn to the colors and the signage at the location.

AR Workshop Smyrna, georgia

Once inside, everything felt shabby chic and fun! The paint bar displayed all of the paint options in easy to see through bottles.

AR Workshop Smyrna, georgia

But they also had paint chip boards and stain boards so you could see how they would look on wood and with the desired finishes.

AR Workshop Smyrna, georgia

They had many display ideas to show you other projects you could make at AR Workshop Smyrna, as well as to show you just how those colors and finishes would look on a full project.

And they have power tools. That you get to use! It was pretty exciting seeing so many nail guns ready for us.

AR Workshop Smyrna, georgia

They had already created my stencil from the file and design I sent them. And this is when I learned this was completely a hands-on project. We would have assistance, but we would be doing everything! It’s great because I can do my own project and not have to worry about cleaning up my house or having a space for everything to dry. I make a mess, and leave it there!

AR Workshop Smyrna, georgia

The entire process was very similar to how I made my DIY canvas art for Christmas. It was just done a lot better at AR Workshop!

Creating our DIY Sign

The very first thing we had to do was sand the pieces for the frame of our sign.

AR Workshop Smyrna, georgia

We then stained the frame pieces with the color stain we picked as well as painted the background of the actual sign. I used white dove for the sign background.

AR Workshop Smyrna, georgia

Then it was time to move that out of the way to dry and get to “weeding”. Weeding is the process of removing the insides of the letters to create the actual stencil. This process is tedious, time consuming, and strangely cathartic.

AR Workshop Smyrna, georgia

Next it’s time to apply the transfer tape. When I’ve done this on my own, I’ve used giant pieces. It turns out, using smaller pieces makes it a lot easier and overlapping them gives a lot of support.

AR Workshop Smyrna, georgia

Once the entire thing was covered in transfer tape, it was time to remove it from the paper backing.

AR Workshop Smyrna, georgia

Because it was so big, I had help positioning it on my dried white board (remember the one I painted earlier?).

AR Workshop Smyrna, georgia

Next, I admired my handy work. It was also important to make sure there weren’t any bubbles close to any of the letters or under any of them.

AR Workshop Smyrna, georgia

Before putting my color on, I prepped it with clear substance so the color didn’t bleed under stencil (think like
mod podge). Then it was time for the color. I selected “reflecting pool and gauntlet grey just in case you are following along with your paint choices. It was important here and with the sealant to use very little paint and go straight up and down with a tapping motion, not to paint side to side or you will get under your stencil.

AR Workshop Smyrna, georgia

Before the paint dries, you will take the stencil off and again marvel at your work. Once this paint was dry, I used some of the paper that was covering the table to sort of rough up the paint a little bit so the edges were smoothed out and it looked more natural.

AR Workshop Smyrna, georgia

Remember that frame that I stained? Now it’s time to nail it onto the artwork.

AR Workshop Smyrna, georgia

Once it was all ready, they even helped me put wire on the back so that it would be ready to hang as soon as I brought it home. I made a complete project in about 3 hours (and there was talking and chatting and eating and drinking, too. Oh, yes you can bring food and alcoholic and non-alcholic drinks if you want while you are making your artwork, too!)

Meghan made a great canvas wall hanging if you want to see something else that was created at AR Workshop.

AR Workshop Smyrna, georgia

Check out the video of the entire process of making my sign, too!

Here’s where I might lose part of my Disney card, but it’s better to admit it up front. I’ve seen all of the Star Wars movies, but I’m pretty far from a Star Wars groupie. I feel like I watch the movie and have no idea what I just saw (especially the original movies). But here’s the thing, my confused self was throughly able to enjoy SOLO: A Star Wars Story. I was familiar enough with Han Solo and Chewbacca, but it wasn’t necessary at all. I feel it definitely had legs as it’s own stand alone movie. Oh, and not to worry, no spoilers!

Chewbacca and krystyn

I knew enough that I was finally able to visit everybody at Hollywood Studios this time! I actually saw Chewbacca twice.

Right, back to SOLO. Of course you get back story on Han Solo, Chewbacca and Lando. But, I won’t spoil that for you. There is mention of Kessel Run, and 20 parsecs or something, but I have to be honest, I still have no idea what the heck it is. So, maybe it helps clear things up for you and maybe it doesn’t!

Solo: A Star Wars Story

About SOLO: A Star Wars Story

Board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY, an all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo befriends his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and meets the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes. The film stars Alden Ehrenreich, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Paul Bettany.

What about taking the kids?

Despite a couple heavy spots, for the most part, the movie is pretty “light” compared to the darker Star Wars movies. There wasn’t really anything scary for older kids, but I could see younger kids having a hard time with a few scenes. Thankfully, being Star Wars, there really isn’t much blood! I would be fine with my girls seeing the movie, but keep in mind it has almost a 2.5 hour run time. I had to make a potty break and really needed another one.

There isn’t really any sex scenes, but there are a couple passionate kisses and some innuendo. Nothing too dramatic.

Chewbacca from Solo.jpg

It’s so hard to not say anything else without spoiling the movie. I will say, I think they did a great job with casting as Alden Ehrenreich does a great job as the cocky and confident Han Solo and Chewbacca shows such a range of motion.

SOLO: A Star Wars Story Phone Wallpaper

There’s a party in the movie where there is discussion about family and tribe and if there is a difference. It immediately resonated with me (and my tribe who happened to be at the movie with me) and I knew it needed to be something. So, I’ve made it a phone wallpaper that you can grab and save (hopefully, it works for your phone!) Click on the image to grab the full-sized version.

SOLO: A Star Wars Story Printable

I also created to 10 x 8 printables that you can put in a frame and hang in your house. I recommend printing on card stock, or photo paper. Click on the image to download the PDF version of each one.

Grab the printables, decorate your phone screen and then get ready to see the movie SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY which opens in theatres everywhere this Memorial Day weekend (May 25th).

Our family needed the perfect little day-cation to get away. Nothing too far. Nothing where we had to stay overnight. After discussing with many friends (many of whom have lived in Atlanta much longer than us), we decided on a visit to Chattanooga, Tennessee. It was almost exactly 2 hours from our suburban Atlanta home to Chattanooga, Tennessee which we felt was the perfect distance for a day-cation. We left at 9am and got home at 9pm after a full day of adventuring seeing Rock City, The Incline Railway and Ruby Falls before the day was done.

incline railway ruby falls rock city

Rock City

Our first stop was Rock City which ironically is actually in Georgia. (It’s confusing. Believe me, I know, but there are fabulous signs all around the city making it easy to find everything). Our neighbors actually have one of their birdhouses, which is what got it stuck in my head. We had never been before, so we were looking for a little bit of adventure, but fun with the kiddos. They have free parking at Rock City, so you don’t feel rushed.

Chattanooga Tennessee | One day trip from Atlanta

It’s got a take you back in time, easy going feel to it. You grab a map and can start on one of two paths that will circle through Rock City (the green is wheelchair friendly but you don’t see as much) or the red path. We took the red path, with map in hand and started our first journey. (Knowing that this wasn’t a stroller-friendly place, we made sure to bring our Ergo carrier and it worked out perfectly, except a couple places.)

Chattanooga Tennessee | One day trip from Atlanta | Rock City.jpg

The full path is less than a mile making it very easy for our 6 and 4 year old to complete. Even though it was the middle of the summer, because we were so high up, it wasn’t nearly as hot as it was in the city. The walking path was full of nature and plants, as well as fun things like gnome city and a deer watching area.

Chattanooga Tennessee | One day trip from Atlanta | Rock City.jpg

And, random places for great photo ops. (I imagine this might be one of the possible locations for a wedding.)

Chattanooga Tennessee | One day trip from Atlanta | Rock City.jpg

While the walk is quite easy and not too long, it is definitely full of adventure, and not for a person with weak nerves. The girls just went right along on the 180 foot swinging bridge. And, my momma heart was racing. No fear!

Chattanooga Tennessee | One day trip from Atlanta | Rock City.jpg

The ledges are all very secure, but that didn’t stop me from being nervous. There are many amazing views of the mountains along the walk and even this spot where you can see 7 states at one time (and who knows which state in which we were actually standing.) Up at the top, there is also a restaurant, a place to grab a drink, and ice cream stand. We opted to head back down as it was a little early for lunch, but the view was amazing for a nice meal.

Chattanooga Tennessee | One day trip from Atlanta | Rock City.jpg

Many of the passages are labeled with names like “fat man’s squeeze” and “needle’s eye.” When we came up to the first one, I had to wait and get my mind straight before going in. Claustrophobia and small spaces don’t mix. If you can’t or don’t want to to do it, there is always the green path. However, I went through it. I did have to take E off my back and out of the carrier, but, fortunately, she was a trooper and just walked right through.

Chattanooga Tennessee | One day trip from Atlanta | Rock City.jpg

On the way down, there is a ledge you can stand on with yet another amazing view. There is so much natural beauty surrounding historic Lookout Mountain.

Chattanooga Tennessee | One day trip from Atlanta | Rock City.jpg

Which makes for a great picture with those of your family willing to hang out on it. (E is standing with me, not in the carrier dangling over the edge!)

Chattanooga Tennessee | One day trip from Atlanta | Rock City.jpg

The walkways really are amazing and the tiniest little spaces for people to walk through, but we all had an amazing time.

Chattanooga Tennessee | One day trip from Atlanta | Rock City.jpg

At the end of the walk is Fairyland Caverns and Mother Goose Village which was a fun treat for the girls. They liked looking at the setups and figuring out which story was pictured.

Chattanooga Tennessee | One day trip from Atlanta | Rock City.jpg

We stopped for a quick bite to eat at the cafe at Rock City where they had burgers and dogs. It wasn’t our favorite, but it made our tummy’s full and got us onto our next stop without anybody being hungry or upset.

The Incline Railway

The next stop on our day-cation was the Lookout Mountian Incline Railway. We figured it would be a good break to take a seat and check out the view and the ride.

Chattanooga Tennessee | One day trip from Atlanta | Rock City.jpg

We had about a 20 minute wait once we received our boarding passes, so I thought it was a good time to break out the rock candy I purchased at Rock City. It did the trick.

Chattanooga Tennessee | One day trip from Atlanta | Rock City.jpg

Then, I saw the railway. Yikes. The trolley style cars climb a breathtaking 72.7 grade straight down (and up). So that’s how a 72 degree angle looks (and actually the car itself is built at an angle to compensate some). Yes, almost straight down, like a roller coaster, but much slower. Make sure to check out all of the beauty surrounding historic Lookout Mountain (and in our case, we didn’t even snap pictures because we were enjoying the view).

Chattanooga Tennessee | One day trip from Atlanta | Rock City.jpg

It is one of the steepest passenger railways in the world and is known as “America’s Most Amazing Mile” or “America Most Amazing Mile” depending on who you ask.

We started at the top, where you can also visit the many points of Civil War interest, the Battles for Chattanooga Electric Map & Museum and Point Park, part of the Chickamauga -Chattanooga National Military Park system, which are just a few short blocks from the Incline top station. There is so much to see surrounding historic lookout mountain that you could spend several hours just venturing and looking around. You can also stop and enjoy the scenic views from the observation tower at the incline before you get on the incline railway. Looking down, you can also see all of the valleys from the observation deck. Make sure to take in the panoramic views both before getting on and once you are on the railway as it has glass on almost all sides.

Keep in mind, that at the top of the incline, it’s all metered parking, so you need to be aware of your time and make sure you feed the meter accordingly. (It was suggested we pay for 2 hours. We were a quarter short, and did 1.75 hours. We arrived back to our car with 6 minutes to spare!)

At the bottom, you can explore historic St. Elmo, where there are some unique shops; local artisan galleries, hand-blown glass stores and more. There are also several restaurants including a fresh-made burrito place, a pizza place and several places to get ice cream.

So, there was some ice cream consumed at the pizza shop (and if we hadn’t have already had lunch, we would have been eating there as well.

It’s crazy to be in both mountains and valleys within just a couple minutes ride on the Incline Railway.

Ruby Falls

We then boarded the railway back up to the top, got in the car and headed on to the final destination of Ruby Falls.

Chattanooga Tennessee | One day trip from Atlanta | Ruby Falls

We waited only about 10 minutes to start a tour which included a very fast elevator ride down into the cave. Fortunately, we were the last ones in the group (I would estimate there were about 6 loads of people in our guided tour). The others were waiting for us at a stopping point to start the tour. Not that you can help it, but the front of the tour is much more informative than the back. There were several spots where there was a recording playing, so you could hear everything, but other times, you were just walking and reading signs.

The cave is a cool 58 degrees. Never once were we chilled as we were constantly moving and looking around on our narrow path. Although this looks like the surface of the moon, it’s two layers in the cave. And far in the back is the space where the man that discovered the cave first crawled in. Talk about claustrophobia!

There are also some nice lighting effects that can be seen in several sources of water that trickle through (or rush through if there has recently been a rain storm).

Chattanooga Tennessee | One day trip from Atlanta | Ruby Falls

Many of the formations seemed to be still growing, but this one wasn’t, so we were encouraged to touch the “cactus and the candle” when walking past. The others shouldn’t be touched.

Chattanooga Tennessee | One day trip from Atlanta | Ruby Falls

Towards the end of the tour, you walk into a great opening, then the tour guide turns on the lights and you all get to see the awesome Ruby Falls. They really are beautiful and so surprising for being underground. And, they admitted, they have no idea of the source of the water. Good to know there are still some things unknown. Our daughters thought the falls were pretty cool.

Chattanooga Tennessee | One day trip from Atlanta | Ruby Falls

When the tour guide mentioned the lantern tours, the husband and I both looked at each other and thought “date night.” Every Friday at 8pm, they do guided lantern only tours of the cave, which would be a very unique experience.

For the way back out of the falls, we made sure to head to the front of the group so we could experience all the guide had to say (and he said a lot). And the way in for the most part is the way out, so we got to hear a lot of what he might have said earlier. Also, it got us on the first elevator ride up, so we didn’t have to wait with antsy kids.

We finished off our day at one of the many breweries for dinner (no beer for the girls, and a root beer for me), and headed home! But if you need ideas, check out these Chattanooga Restaurants to plan something out.

Visiting Chattanooga for the day was a great trip for us, and not a hard one at all. All of the girls had a great time, and the grown ups did, too. It was surprisingly easy going and fun time for all of us.

*We were provided complimentary attraction tickets for the purpose of reviewing it, however I wouldn’t share it with you and wouldn’t recommend it if we didn’t enjoy it.

It’s Mother’s Day! Hooray! (Just imagine Dora The Explorer singing it…were anybody else’s kids obsessed with that years ago?). We were at a friend’s house late last night, so the girls let me sleep in a bit! As I came downstairs, on the TV was displayed “Happy Mother’s Day!” Then the oldest hit play.

Mr. Serious had interviewed the girls and asked them all sorts of questions about me and the oldest had edited it and compiled them into a several minute long video. It was the sweetest!

I was gifted some delicious french macarons, a homemade bracelet (that was perfectly symmetrical and color coordinated) from beads form various necklaces and bracelets that had broken. Then it was time for church and Grace and Eggs breakfast. No cooking, and no cleaning were a win for me. Plus an omelette to order and bacon!

Mommy and Me Monday Mother's Day

After we got home, I made sure to ask for a picture with all my girls. Well, let’s just say that I had to go for the one where the least of us were looking crazy.

I then told the kids that I wanted to go have a workout on Mother’s Day and I wanted to hear no complaints. They didn’t really oblige, but I tried! Thankfully, Mr. Serious was on board and worked out with me. I forgot how nice it is to workout together.

Mommy and me monday workout

Here’s where I thought I would sugar coat things, but eh, that’s not real life.

After working out, there was discussion about going out to eat. I knew that dinner would be crazy, so there was a suggestion to get food to go. Well, after looking at menus, I realized there was no way I wanted to pick out meals for all of the kids, because no matter what, I would mess it up.

So, I said, let’s just go out, it’s early, maybe we’ll be okay. Nope. Arrived at 5:45 and there was already an hour wait. We called another place. Over an hour wait. I wasn’t up for it, so I suggested heading home and having leftovers. That.Was.Not.Received.Well!

We had a silent car and leftovers at home. Not the most ideal end to Mother’s Day, but because we were up late the previous night, the girls all went to bed easily, so I’ve got that positive to end on.

This week, more end of year fun and awards and B’s last day of school and next week I head to King and Prince with a friend and a slew of other bloggers to check out the island.

Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther” is one of those movies you can watch over and over again. I saw it twice in the theater and if I could get away to the movies more often, I would have seen it in the theater again. In fact, you can read my Black Panther review. Thankfully, you can now watch it at home Digitally in HD and 4K Ultra HD™ and Movies Anywhere on May 8 and on 4K Ultra HD™, Blu-ray™, DVD and On-Demand on May 15.

Black Panther Blu-ray and cupcake

Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther,” the highly celebrated story of T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman), a young African prince who takes on the mantle of King and Super Hero, has thrilled and inspired generations of moviegoers around the globe. Now, fans can bring home the phenomenon, packed with light-hearted fun, pulse-pounding action and a powerful message, and watch it over and over again.

THE WOMEN OF WAKANDA

The in-home release of Marvel Studios’ Black Panther is packed with bonus material including deleted scenes, outtakes and never-before-seen featurettes.

To celebrate the in-home launch of the mighty Marvel movie, there were chats with the cast and crew about the women of Wakanda, which is the subject of one of the exclusive bonus features: The Warriors Within.

LETITIA WRIGHT [SHURI]

“I think it’s great to see so many strong women in Black Panther because there’s a lack of them in cinema right now; especially black female characters. All these female characters in the movie are really well rounded, too. They are not just written one way. The women have a lot of complexity. It was really refreshing to see and it’s inspiring to be part of it, because it means a lot to me.

“I also love the way that the men are always behind the women in Wakanda. Nobody is undermined by the other sex. The men don’t stand around and say, ‘Shuri, you shouldn’t be into technology and math.’ They’re like, ‘No, go ahead.’ T’Challa says, ‘Go ahead, Sis. This is your department. This is your domain. Do your thing. Stay in your lane.’ I love that that’s the mentality of the king. It’s brilliant. Everybody’s got their own lane.

“I love what Marvel has done with this movie. They are saying that women are just as great as the men. It’s not one or the other. There’s a dope balance.”

Avengers Cupcakes

Yeah, there’s only one in there for Black Panther, but he’s in Avengers: Infinity War, so I wanted to show off these yummy cupcakes I ordered.

10 THINGS YOU NEVER KNEW ABOUT MARVEL STUDIOS’ BLACK PANTHER

Provided by Marvel.

SUPER HERO SECRET #1: THE COMIC BOOKS WERE A HUGE INSPIRATION FOR THE FILMMAKERS

When it comes to the inspiration behind the story of Marvel Studios’ Black Panther, director and co-writer Ryan Coogler admits that he delved deep into the history of the acclaimed Marvel comic book series. “We pulled from all of the comics,” Coogler explains. “When you watch our film, you will probably see something from every writer that has touched T’Challa’s character in the Black Panther comics. Everything from Stan Lee and Jack Kirby’s initial runs through to Don McGregor, Christopher Priest, Jonathan Hickman and Brian Stelfreeze. We grabbed from it all. Each writer left their own mark, so Agent Ross [played by Martin Freeman in the movie] came from Christopher Priest’s run and the character of Shuri came from Reginald Hudlin’s run. Each run left something for us to pull from, but we pulled from absolutely all of them.”

SUPERHERO SECRET #2: THE ATTENTION TO DETAIL ON SET WAS MIND-BLOWING FOR THE ACTORS

“It was incredible to walk on to the Wakandan sets,” enthuses Danai Gurira, who plays Okoye in the movie. “Our production designer, Hannah Beachler, was amazing. I remember walking into the Tribal Council room and thinking, ‘This room is stunning.’ The floors were see-through. There were massive, beautiful panther statues. The throne was very African. The entire décor was very African. It was an amazing experience, which was very rich for my character because I stood there and I thought, ‘This is like nothing else on the planet and it’s my character’s job to protect it.’ Hannah pulled from lots of awesome traditional African esthetics. You don’t get to see it in the movie, but she also designed T’Challa’s office, which was another amazing room on set. We shot some scenes in there, which were left out of the movie – but the office was constructed and it looked amazing.”

SUPER HERO SECRET #3: THE PRODUCTION TEAM TOOK A TRIP TO SOUTH AFRICA TO RESEARCH THE MOVIE

“We took a really important trip to South Africa to do a ton of research for Black Panther,” reveals production designer Hannah Beachler. “We went up and down the country, which helped immensely when we started to create the sets. It was incredible to see all the colors, the textiles and the way things were built. In the end, we shot a lot of plates and second unit footage in South Africa. We shot footage in Uganda, which was used to show the farm land and open space of Wakanda. It was beautiful. We also shot at Victoria Falls in Zambia. When the fighters come flying through the falls and get to the challenge pool; that flight through the falls is Victoria Falls. But when you get to the challenge pool, what you see behind them is a bit of Iguazu Falls, which is in South America. We smashed the two together because we wanted a horizon.”

SUPER HERO SECRET #4: SEBASTIAN STAN WAS ONLY ON THE BLACK PANTHER SET FOR ONE DAY

“The tag scene with Bucky [played by Sebastian Stan] at the end of the movie came as a wonderful surprise to me,” explains Letitia Wright, who plays Shuri in Black Panther. “I was so happy when I read about it. Props to Ryan [Coogler] for adding it to the movie. This scene was shot quite late in the production, but I really enjoyed it. It was a beautiful day on set and I thought it was a great way for us to find out where Bucky had been hiding in Wakanda. We shot the scene in a forest area somewhere in Atlanta, but it only took a day. Sebastian was really great to work with. He’s a good chap.”

SUPER HERO SECRET #5: THE IN-HOME RELEASE IS PACKED WITH DELETED SCENES AND OUTTAKES

Marvel fans can delve deeper into the wondrous world of Wakanda with the exclusive bonus features packaged with the in-home release of the movie. Not only are there behind-the-scenes featurettes and never-before-seen outtakes, but there are also a number of deleted scenes. “There are a couple of scenes with Okoye and W’Kabi [played by Daniel Kaluuya] that I would love people to see,” explains Danai Gurira. “There’s a scene between Okoye and W’Kabi, which takes place after Killmonger tells us what he’s going to do with the kingdom. Okoye is very disturbed by her man seeming to positively respond to Killmonger. There’s also a scene where W’Kabi and Okoye go head-to-head. Okoye pushes W’Kabi to a place where all the rage he had towards T’Challa comes out. I hope some of those moments end up in the deleted scenes.”

SUPER HERO SECRET #6: LUPITA NYONG’O HAD TO LEARN MULTIPLE LANGUAGES FOR THE MOVIE

“The African language that we speak in the movie is Xhosa, which is a Bantu language from South Africa,” reveals Lupita Nyong’o, who plays Nakia in Black Panther. “It has the clicks which my native tongue does not have, so I had to learn it for the movie. I worked very closely with a dialect coach to get it right. I also speak Korean in the film, which was a doozy. A week before we shot the scenes in South Korea, they finalized exactly what Nakia was going to say, so all week I kept practicing the lines over and over again. However, I slipped up from time to time. At one point, the Korean extras laughed because they told me I’d said something about a barbecue by mistake – but we got there in the end.”

SUPER HERO SECRET #7: LETITIA WRIGHT DISCOVERED SHE’D WON HER ROLE IN A RATHER UNUSUAL PLACE

“The audition process was really interesting,” admits Letitia Wright. “I sent over two tapes from London and I didn’t think anything would happen – but then I got a call asking me to fly out to Los Angeles for a screen test. That’s where I met Ryan [Coogler] and Chadwick [Boseman, who plays T’Challa]. Thankfully, we had an immediate connection. I went home and I didn’t hear anything for a couple of weeks – but then I was called back for another screen test. This time, I flew to Atlanta and they put braids in my hair – and I knew I just had to have fun with the audition. I remember thinking, ‘Man, if this happens, it will be very special for me.’ A couple of weeks later, I found out they wanted me for the role of Shuri. I was standing at a bus stop in London when the call came through. I went crazy! I was screaming at the bus stop! I was overjoyed to be part of this epic movie.”

SUPER HERO SECRET #8: CAST MEMBERS HAD TO TACKLE A GRUELING SIX-WEEK BOOT CAMP

Before the cameras started to roll on Black Panther, cast members flew out to Atlanta to prepare for the movie’s awe-inspiring action sequences. “The boot camp lasted six weeks,” reveals Danai Gurira. “It was really helpful to get athletically conditioned for the film shoot, although we also got into the specifics of the movements of our characters. We learned fight choreography, as well as different techniques of how our character was going to move on set. It was intense, but I learned a lot. Okoye is the general of the army and the head of the Dora Milaje, so the way she fights is very traditional. Her movement with the war spear comes from very ancient movements of the nation. It was really interesting to learn.”

SUPER HERO SECRET #9: THERE WERE RAP BATTLES BETWEEN THE ACTORS ON SET

An exclusive gag reel has been created for the in-home release, which is packed with comedy bloopers and slapstick slip-ups from the set of the movie. “There were a lot of funny moments during the filming of Black Panther,” recalls Letitia Wright. “Even though the shoot was a lot of hard work and there were some incredibly physical scenes, we always found moments to have fun. We had rap battles in between takes, or we organized dinners and bowling sessions. There was a day where we did a Get Out challenge, because we had [Get Out star] Daniel Kaluuya working with us. Who won the rap battles? To be perfectly honest, I think I was the best. I was up against a lot of people, but their rapping skills were terrible.”

SUPER HERO SECRET #10: LOOK CLOSELY AT THE MOVIE’S KIMOYO BEADS FOR HIDDEN QUALITIES

Hannah Beachler admits she had a ton of fun working on the high-tech gadgets for the movie. “The Kimoyo beads are my favorite,” the production designer admits. “I really pushed the design on them because I knew the beads needed to be something really cool. The Kimoyo beads were originally introduced in the Black Panther comics – but Ryan [Coogler] loved the idea of using them for communicating in the movie. If you look closely at the beads, you’ll see there’s a prime bead, which is given to you when you’re born in Wakanda. There is a little peak on the prime bead, which makes it stand out from the others. All the beads’ symbols light up, but the prime bead lights up completely. A Nigerian language – nsibidi – is used for the symbols on the beads. You’ll also see nsibidi writing on columns of some of the iconic buildings in Wakanda, too.”

This post was sponsored by Reebok as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central and all opinions expressed in my post are my own.

Now that it’s finally warming up here (meaning it went from 55 one morning to 70 the next) and the sun is out in time, the girls and I are back to walking to school in the morning. It’s a nice half mile walk with all four girls and then a half mile home just B and I on the way back. It typically results in interesting recaps of the previous day, hypotheses about what is to come, or silly stories about the dead snake we pass on the way. It’s always an adventure.

Reebok Trilux for a walk

When it comes to the walk, I’m usually all ready for the day to head to the gym. But, I don’t like to wear my gym shoes all day. Instead I’m wearing my brand new Reebok Trilux shoes from Academy Sports for my walk. They are fashionable, supportive and comfy for my morning walk. And stylish enough that I will wear them with shorts or jeans when I run errands after my trip to the gym. Or let’s be honest, when I go to run my errands still in my workout clothes and just change my shoes. Comfort, style, and simplicity is what I’m going for most days.

Reebok Trilux

Yes, they look cute and comfy, but they also work for a little celebratory jumping, too. What’s the reason? No reason…just jumping and seeing if we could capture it. Next time, I need to work on flexing my muscles a little more!

reebok trilux good for jumping pictures

The Reebok Trilux shoes are a great shoe for everyday wear. I can definitely see these for a trip to a theme park or a day of leisurely hanging. The fun sparkle integrated into the shoelaces makes them fashionable and the support of them being tennis shoes make them functional. The toe box of the shoe is soft and flexible with a fabric covering making it extra roomy and breathable. And the shoe opening is soft fabric that really hugs your foot.

As we are outside more and more during the Spring, these are the perfect shoe for now, or even to give someone on Mother’s Day. I’m always buying myself or asking for new athletic or leisure shoes and these totally fit the bill.

The month of May seems to just fly past. Each week getting closer and closer to the end of the year! Between end of year parties, celebrations, graduations and ceremonies, but calendar is lit up all month long! The things nobody tells you about having a big family!

This week I had a fifth grade picnic (I wish I would have taken a picture with the oldest as my outfit was epic!) But, I’ll just have to remember it! There was also a Mother’s Day Tea with B at her preschool. She wasn’t happy to have me there at all! She and her classmates sang us a nice song and had a paper purse full of art work and creations for us.

Mother's Day Tea with B

The end of the week found everybody just exhausted. We stayed up late Friday night so E could get her yellow belt at karate. The other three girls and I stayed home and watched The Greatest Showman (if you haven’t seen it, go see it!). I let us get started thinking we’d get 30 minutes in. We watched the whole movie waiting for Mr. Serious and E to get home.

This meant that Saturday got a little rough around early afternoon. Knowing we had another late night, and feeling super tired, I decided to lay down. A bit into my nap, I heard B having an epic meltdown and I knew she was exhausted. I grabbed her and brought her upstairs with me. She yelled in my face “I don’t want to lay down” and about 0.2 seconds later, she was out! I don’t even remember the last nap I had with one of the girls. So, I will take it. A few minutes after she was smiling in her sleep and then rolled over and put her arm on me. Yep, I was the putty for sure!

Napping with B Mommy and Me Monday

This week is no different. Shampoo, rinse, lather, repeat. The kids like to tell me how many days of school they have left and I’m thankful we are in a position to pay for some camps to keep them busy and having some fun this summer!
