Gluten Free Tasty After School Mix for “Hangry” Kids

Despite my girls having lunch and snack time at school, when the get off the bus at 2:20, they are hungry. And by 2:22, they are HANGRY= hungry + angry. I need to get food in them pronto or there are meltdowns. I like to avoid those at all costs.

I like for their snacks to vary, so we picked up some Cheerios which are good for other things besides breakfast (on sale with this BOGO coupon), some dried fruit, marshmallows and gluten free pretzels. If I had some on hand, I would have also added some goji berries, wolfberries and hemp hearts. We just came up with our after school mix recipe on a whim and it was a huge hit with all four girls.

After school snack mix for hangry kids

We used about 2 cups of cheerios, 1 cup of mixed dried fruit, 1 cup of mini marshmallows, 1 cup of roasted and salted almonds and 1 cup of gluten free pretzels. We mixed it all together and tossed it around to make our mix.

After school snack mix for hangry kids

It was perfect for that after school hungry time that my kids so often fall victim to. And, honestly, it’s around the same time I need a snack because of all the calories I burned during my morning workout!
