Open Hearts?
The first time I saw a commercial for the "Open Hearts Collection" I didn’t get it.
I still don’t.
And, I keep seeing it.
It keeps coming back.
Christmas 2009. Christmas 2010.
Then Valentine’s Day.
I’m sure we’ll see it at Mother’s Day, too.
It took me a while to figure out just what it was I didn’t like about it.
Then, after seeing the commercial for the millionth time, it hit me.
It doesn’t look like "open hearts"… it looks like a swan.
"Hey baby, my heart is open for you."
Nah. That’s for the birds.
(I can’t figure out why it’s two open hearts, either. Really, it’s an enigma to me…enlighten me!)
I have that exact necklace that my hubby got for me last Christmas and I love everything about it… even the fact that it looks like a swan. TeeHee
Jane Seymore explains that her mother told her that as long as your heart is open love will find a way in…. so if you have two people with their hearts open the mutual love will find each other.
As for looking like a swan, I find that truly romantic because of two things…. Swans mate for life, and if one mate dies, the other may die soon after unless another couple brings that one in as a companion. Secondly, have you noticed the heart that two swans neck make??? So beautiful.
So, OK, I’m a total corny, love sick sap!
Oh, no…and now I sound like a jerk.
I’m glad you like your jewelry…and at least the swans are romantic:)
Some (used to be) dear friends of mine gave me the necklace, earrings and ring. As mean as it sounds, I hate the jewelry with a purple passion. Like, I totally can’t STAND IT! I never wear the jewelry and mute the commercials….is that bad?! lol
Love, Mere
Okay, now Mere…that’s hilarious.
White elephant gift maybe?
And friends gave it to you? Isn’t it supposed to come from like a significant other?
I can’t stand those commercials either, and I think the necklace is hideous! To me it looks like a snake. It is freaky! Blah. Dumb concept. Dumb necklace. Boo.
Funny post! 😉
I’m glad I’m not alone in this…I practically curse at the tv every time I see it.
I have to say…the swan makes so much more sense! It has always bothered me, too!
Glad to give you my reason to dislike it so much.
I don’t get it either. I despise both Kay Jeweler and Olive Garden commercials, so I’m a bit biased to their jewelry. 🙂
So, you don’t like the “every kiss begins with kay” stuff:)
And, Olive Garden, too? Hilarious.
Feel the same way. The commercials are awful and that is what gets me. Plus, all I can think of is Dr. Quinn Medicine woman when I see that lady telling us why she designed it. Ugh! So cheesey!
Oh, yep, think of that, too.
I have seen those commercials and I have never longed for those necklace, something must be wrong somewhere. But oh well, you know swans are good animals, some people like that 🙂
I guess there must be some people that like it.
Not a fan either. It does look like a swan!
So glad there are so many that share my dislike!
I always feel like I *should* like the necklace, it always sounds so romantic, but yeah gotta be honest, it does nothing for me. It almost seems like two hearts that can’t quite get together… Like, “Dude, I almost love you… but let’s keep things open in case that hottie in the next jewel-case breaks up with her boyfriend.”
Precisely. I don’t want an open heart…let love in? Nah..doesn’t work for me at all..
I think they made WAY too many of them back in 2008 or 2009 and are still in the process of trying to get rid of them – that’s why we see commercials for them at EVERY HOLIDAY!
I was just saying this same thing to Mr. Serious. Like, did they make too many and they have a surplus?
Open hearts, open relationship? No thanks.
Bingo!
I think it looks like a fat butt! You’re cracking me up, because I feel the same way about it. I did a post on this very same, stupid necklace a few years ago.

I missed the swan connection though. Good eye!
Hope all is well!
Okay, yours was way funnier! Gotta admit.
Um, yeah I’m with you…I think the whole open hearts thing is silly and cheesey. And just another marketing gimmick. Not. for. me. 🙂
I still don’t get it. At. all.
LOL!! This is funny 🙂
Open hearts let love in…..cheesy. It is as cheesy as wearing a key around you neck as the “key to your heart.” Some people LOVE that kinda thing. Me? Not really.
Now if Josh gave me his favorite, most worn in concert t-shirt, I’d melt in a puddle!
Precisely. Jewelry is so unoriginal and unpersonalized. Might as well get me a giftcard, right?
Great….now all I see is a swan:) lol Hope you had a great Valentine’s Day!
Oh, no..do you have the open hearts, too?
I got a single rose and m&ms…perfect!
you know I heart valentine’s day. I do not heart this necklace, and have always thought it looked like a swan too. thanks for the chuckle 😉
Whew…from somebody that loves it so much, I was a touch worried.
Yep, I’ve always thought it looked like a swan. Honest to goodness. I’m not really a fan either.
So, how did Kay miss the message and think this was a good idea?
I am right there with you. I just don’t get it.
it so does look like a swan!!
open hearts …i love you 🙂
seriously?? come on!!
It’s for the birds LMAO! Love it!
Mr. Serious might or might not have helped me with that line:)
yes i cant figure this one out either i guess hearts are always open i dont know
