This is a sponsored post for Always.

Have you ever thought about period poverty? It affects probably way more people than you ever thought possible. Even young girls and women. Nearly 1-in-5 girls have missed activities because they can’t afford period protection. It’s a stinky and very real reality for many girls. They can’t and don’t actually go to work or their favorite activities because of their periods. Thankfully, Walmart and Always have teamed up to #endperiodpoverty.

Staying active and having confidence

My oldest daughter has really taken to coming to Zumba with me when the date and time allow for it. I think having the one-on-one time with me is great for her. Doing Zumba is also really good for her self-confidence, too, so I want her to keep doing it as long as she does.

In fact, Always Live #LikeAGirl is all about helping girls stay confident. Always has done that by encouraging girls to stay in sports and encouraging them to persevere through failure—both of which are key confidence boosters. And this year they are taking it to the next level by keeping her involved in the confidence-boosting activities she loves – by helping tackle period poverty.

The effect of Period Poverty on girls

Period poverty is a real problem in the U.S. With nearly 1 in 5 girls missing school because they can’t afford period protection. But it’s not just school they miss. It also means missing out on activities they love. And the side effects of missing out on their activities outside of school can be just as real. Missing school is bad, but then missing out on their outside things can really dissolve their confidence and skills.

At puberty, girls’ confidence plummets and having to miss activities because of lack of access to period products only makes this drop in confidence worse. These activities help build her confidence and skills, and missing out can limit a girl’s potential and opportunities far beyond puberty.

Donation to help #EndPeriodPoverty from Always and Walmart, and with your purchase

To help #EndPeriodPoverty, Always and Walmart are donating a year’s supply of period products to 50 teams in 50 states.

In addition to these 50 teams in 50 states, for every purchase of a 3-pack box of Always Pads, Always will donate a pack to girls in need across the US. To get these donations to happen, purchases must be made via smarturl.it/WalmartAlways during the month of January. It’s a win-win – you stock up AND help a girl stay in the activity she loves.

Let’s get her back in the action and help keep girls doing what they love.
