UV Skinz Review and Giveaway | Road Trip Event

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. I MAY EARN FROM QUALIFYING PURCHASES.

If you’ve been to my site, you know that we are all fair-skinned.  When I was little, I had a really bad sunburn on my back.  I’ve also had several others (not for lack of sunscreen most of the time, just poor application).  Consequently, I have had numerous moles removed from my back.  None of them cancerous, but as a precaution.  Skin cancer runs in my family, so I have to be extra careful.

UV Skinz help fight the suns’ rays with a built-in SPF of 50+ right into the fabric.  They were created by Rhonda Sparks after she lost her 32-year-old husband to skin cancer.  Skin cancer knows no age, gender or race, so we all need to be protected from it.

Their swim shirts feature:

  • flat-lock sticking throughout the entire garment to eliminate irritating seams.
  • Reglan cut sleeves for full range of motion
  • Added UV protection (UPF50+) woven into the fabric
  • Chlorine resistant treatment for long lasting wear

UV Skinz kids board shorts feature:

  • Built-in swim liners for added protection
  • Working drawstring and elastic waist for variations in body sizes.
  • Breathable, light weight fabric that dries quickly when wet
  • Added UV protection (UPF50+) woven into the fabric
  • Chlorine resistant treatment for long lasting wear

Serious Tested:  We ordered #2 the Pink Flower Set in a 2T.  I contacted Rhonda to make sure the size would be good for #2 (as other brands seem to run small).  UV Skinz run right on, to a little on the bigger size.  In fact, I hope this will fit her next year, too.

They state that you don’t need to use a swim diaper, but, we still wet ahead and used one and the shorts weren’t too snug at all (see pictures).

The top is very stretchy and easy to get over #2’s head without a struggle.  The short sleeves are quite long so she requires very little sunscreen on her arms (I wish I would have ordered a long-sleeved shirt for her so we wouldn’t have to do sunscreen on her arms at all).  The stitching on the seams is very heavy duty and obvious that it will hold up to being taken on and off multiple times.  The fabric is also very high quality.  When wet, you can’t see through it.

The bottoms have a drawstring around the waist which really helps keep the board shorts on #2.  They are also lined through the middle.  These also feature the same heavy-duty stitching and high quality fabric as the shirt.

UV Skinz were perfect for our road trip.  While we didn’t use the pools in our hotels, as we weren’t there long enough, we did go into Grammi and Gramps’ pool multiple times.  It was so easy to have to worry about just a little sunscreen on the spots that were showing and a hat.

We also visited an outdoor mall with a fountain for kids to play in.  Again, just slip on the suits and you are almost good to go (wishing for long-sleeves next time!).

Pros: Little to no use of sunscreen required.  Easy to put on and very high quality.  Good sizing and lots of options.

Cons: It’s really hard to think of any. If I had to say one, I would say they are more expensive then a traditional swimsuit.  But, you can’t really put a price on your skin, and if you factor in the savings on the sunscreen, you are sure to come out a winner.

Buy It: You can purchase a wide variety of sizes and UV Skinz on their site.  the one we received is on sale right now for $41.90.
