Essential Pieces for Your Back to School Wardrobe When you Live in the South

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN AFFILIATE LINKS. I MAY EARN FROM QUALIFYING PURCHASES.

Starting school in the middle of the summer (July 31st to be exact) means that we aren’t exactly shopping for sweaters and jeans. Especially in the South when it feels like we live on the surface of the sun while a fire hose is being aimed at us. Yes, it’s hot and humid. So, when it’s time for us to go back to school shopping, we have to consider that when picking some essential pieces for back to school.

Essential Pieces for your back to school wardrobe when you live in the south

When it was time for some back to school shopping (yes, in JULY), we headed to Osh Kosh B’gosh to get some summer back to school essentials. One of my favorite things about OshKosh is that they make so many of their clothing items and lines mix and match. So, kids have freedom to express themselves and still match within the line. And added bonus is that they are priced very well and that they last. Case in point, N on the left is wearing her OshKosh from two years ago.

A dress

We had to grab the pink floral dress because it was just so her. And, the fact that it had shorter sleeves and was a lightweight material was a must! She can later wear it with a sweater and maybe even leggings.

Leggings + Tunic

The leggings and tunics are great for year round here. All she has to do is add a jeans jacket for winter and she’s good. A bonus is that these leggings also pair well with dresses because of the mix and match options, so she ends up with more outfit options with less clothes.

Graphic and Printed T’s

The Graphic T’s at OshKosh are always on trend, cute and often have fun, empowering messages. When we saw “smart is the new cool”, we both new that it had to be part of her back to school wardrobe.

T-shirts are one of those essential pieces that will work all year long, too. But right now, she’s just wearing the shirts with shorts. No need for a jacket for a while!

Shorts

Yes, shorts are a big must here. The kids have recess and PE outside. And it’s HOT! (Have I mentioned it’s hot here?) I really like that OshKosh has shorts that are longer and more comfortable for the girls to play around in. Plus, even with the bigger kid sizes, they still have the elastic insides with buttons so the waists can be adjusted without the need for a belt. I think you can tell how excited she is about that!

For this wardrobe, I let her go online and pick out what she wanted from OshKosh B’gosh. I find if they pick out their clothes, they are happier. And for me, as long as they are weather appropriate, I’m happy, too!

Giving Back

In 2014, the company launched The B’gosh Jeanius Campaign as an annual effort to support our customer’s local communities with donated clothing and school supply needs. Since then, they’ve partnered with DonorsChoose.org, Delivering Good (formerly K.I.D.S. fashion delivers), OshKosh Moms, families and friends to collect over $1.1 million and distribute more than 66,000 articles of clothing to impact the lives of over 260,000 students.

What is one back to school wardrobe essential you have to have?
